Was going to wait for kiwi cruiser but I was too excited about seeing it live LOL

Don’t wait for me or any of the kiwi's to post, if you see something interesting on the web cam, post it :)

I am not always watching the web cams or am too busy with work etc… to post, and as the world cruise goes on, the time different between NZ & the other places she visits will mean, we wont be able to see her sail ins / outs.

why would they need to generate electricity if she is just berthed there...(

Well... the security men on board would need electricity to make a cup tea:D

but seriously.... they would have to keep it ticking over as the maintenance would be huge.

Still have to be washed down, and kept clean, or she would rust away very quickly. All those big ships are deisel electric, meaning they use deisel to run a big generator and then use the electricity from that to run all the engines, motors, galleys, lighting , lifts, etc....etc.

We all do that Joanne.

When I clicked on they were 1 hour away, but when I came back they had docked all ready.

Its all in the timing and a bit of luck.

Thats why if someone spots something on the cams, please save it, and post.

The QE2 came in to Dubai on 27 Nov 2008. We were on Legend of the Seas coming from Rome to Singapore and it docked just before us. It was sad to see all the cases lined up at the dock. Our ship stayed overnight as the bombing in Mumbai had just happened and that was to be our next port. We then missed Mumbai. The people going to Taj Mahal had their trip cancelled.

Just sitting there Jilly. Its future was in doubt when the debt crisis hit. It was supposed to be a Hotel at the entrance to the Palm Island I think, then they were going to take it to Capetown as a floating hotel for the world cup and all that fell through....so now she just sits there.

Such a shame really.

The Queen Mary has been gracefully berthed at Long Beach for years. Since 1967 I think. At least she has been a success there.

It really does make you think bob.

Relate it to the mileage on your car and the distance starts to sink in.

65,000 kms in 3 months,...

oh boy

I bought a new car in 2003 and its only up to 35,000 kms.

you dont really use the car.

Came back from one cruise and the battery was flat..

Guess thats what happens when you are away cruising .

Have received a report from on board. Apparently the Pirate drill was interesting. They had to go to their cabins, leave the door open and sit on a stool.

However, obviously all never want to have to do it for real.

Also apparently with the extreme temperatures some have suffered from heatstroke keeping the Doctor on board busy.

I imagine Egypt will be just as hot.

I like Dawn Princess's itinerary - but I am not keen on the timing of their World Cruise. Heading for the Suez area in the Northern Hemisphere summer would not suit me at all!!

I was at the GP's yesterday and we were chatting about cruising and health risks when in port, etc. She said not to drink only bottled water ashore and then added that in Egypt the locals fill used water bottles with water and sell them to passengers.

That can happen anywhere. Always check that any bottled water has a factory seal on it, or better still buy it from the ship before you go ashore , and take it with you.

Even refilling a used bottle with water from the ship make be risky as your container may be contaminated.

Just checked out the current position on that map site I go to, and no map showing up. Wonder if thats for security, due to their position, or just not coming up on my machine. Maps are working for all the other ships:confused:.

I looked too, as I was wondering where they are within the pirate waters. And no it didn't come up on my computer, and I also thought it might be for security.

I had read on a blog that the ship broke down for 3 hours, an electrical problem. As a passenger you would have felt insecure, even though the staff are trained for attacks by pirates.

Nice to know it wasnt just my computer. I was not going to post any maps or bridge cams until they are well clear of that area anyway.....and perhaps we should all be a bit circumspect in that regard, as you dont know who could be following this board. If its like other years , they will meet up with an armed naval escort and travel in a convoy.
