Go into the mian show lounge on the lowest level (It is multiple decks).

 

Walk right up to the stage, turn right go all the way over, turn left and OUT the door to the very front of the ship!

 

There has never been ANYBODY out there when we have used the "Secret door".

We don't mind the cold, at least not the FLORIDA cold :D

 

I will put you on my calendar, but it all depends on the time of sunset. There are about two months in the winter when it is too dark by the time the ship comes to get good photo's. I will get back with you closer to the time to confirm whether we will try.

 

In the meantime, enjoy planning & counting the days.

Unfortunately, it is too dark for pictures now that daylight savings time has ended. We will not be able to take pictures again until about February. Hope you have a great cruise! :)

The sun is going down a little later each day, so it looks like we are back in business. If the weather cooperates we should be able to take pictures of you when you get to Mayport. It is usually between 5:20 and 5:40 p.m.

You might want to check out the military rates for this cruise... all four categories have them!

Thanks, oldrailfan! We are actually not military - just live here :) We do have a lot of military friends, so I will pass the info along in case someone can break away. Of course, the wives want to cruise, but the husbands are at sea too much :D

OOPS!! I thought you said somewhere that you were...

 

My brother, a retired Naval Aviator, got a kick out of a picture I took on our last cruise. As the ship came in line with the East end of the runway, I shot a photo of the approach lineup. I handed a print to him without comment, and he immediately said "Mayport! How in the world did you get that?" (He was stationed there several times in his career, I was an Army Infantryman and never got anywhere close to Florida) He was surprised that the ship was "tall" enough to see the lights in the landing mirror, even if it was wa-ay below glidepath. :D

Back in September, last time I was aboard, every time I thought of finding the Secret Door, the lounge was in use either for a program or rehearsals... I'm going again in April, and I'm going to try to get out there this time. BTW, for everyone's info, there is supposed to be one of those doors on either side of the stage.

 

Another neat public area that not too many people know about is the bridgetop. You can get to it by going all the way forward inside, past the cabins on the Verandah deck. There will be a weather door straight ahead of you at the end of the passageway. You can also get there by going all the way forward on either side, all the way out at the railing of the Lido deck, until you come the the after side of the actual bridge. The doors to the bridge will be roped off, but there will be a stairway up to the area I'm talking about.

(They kept saying in a minute) Well, we are going again, and was wondering if it would be possible for you to take another set of pictures for us. They loved the ones that you were able to get of me and my wife, and THEY want to be in these, and have promised, to come running when we call... LOL We will be leaving Sept. 24 2012. Will it be possible?

Where APDMOM takes photos from is on the South bank of the river, so you need to be on the Starboard side of the ship. Try to find a distinctve spot aboard, so when she publishes the pics, you'll be able to find yourselves.

 

BTW "MOM," I'll do like I did last year, and get all the way aft, either on that litter "finger" deck on the Lido, or on the Serenity area.

Boo, That time of year it is almost (or is completely) dark by the time the ship gets to where APDMOM hangs out, so she prob'ly didn't get any pics.

 

By the 28th of April, she'll be able to click the ship unless we're late getting away from the pier for some reason.

I also will be on the April 28th cruise.

 

You took pics in Nov 2010 of our cruise to sprinkle my son's ashes at sea! (To swim forever with the Dolphins) I can't tell you how special those pictures were of the dophins escorting us out to SEA! Thanks for making our cruises even more special!
