bhbm Posted May 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2010 Anyone know of any good books about the Caribbean? I am interested in the history and culture of the islands. Any suggestions?
cb at sea Posted May 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2010 Get a guidebook! There's always a synopsis of the history/culture thing, plus, you'll learn current things about each country! And, when you go there, you won't be clueless and have to depend on ship's excursions to have your fun....you'll know where to go and how to get there! wwinfl91 Posted May 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2010 James Michener wrote a book titled Caribbean which was an interesting read on one of our Caribbean cruises. Here is a link to a little info on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caribbean_%28novel%29 Have a great next cruise.

Rare Essiesmom Posted May 26, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2010 Go to Barnes & Noble, Borders, Books-a-Million...WaldenBooks...They all have travel sections full of guidebooks. If you have a Book Warehouse in an outlet mall nearby, they wil have outdated guidebooks (guidebooks are updated nearly every year). History and geography don't change...Google you ports of call. Most countries have a tourist bureau with lots of info. EM

Yes, Caribbean is an excellent book and I am not a Michener fan but I really enjoyed this book. Great history and culture of the Caribbean. It is a much better read than a guide book. Putterdude Posted May 26, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 26, 2010 Anotheer vote for Michener's Caribbean, it gave me a good leg up on the history and culture of the Caribbean, however I would still purchase a guide book as it doesn't cover all the islands.
