Bella cruiser Posted June 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Hi everyone, you may all know about this, but in case anyone is interested, I came across a very interesting accident report for an incident that occured to Pacific Pearl (when she was Star Princess) and thought some may find it interesting as well. Apparently, in June 1995, Star Princess ran aground on Poundstone Rock off Alaska, resulting in two 8" wide tears in her hull, one 40ft long and the other 100ft long and damage to the starboard prop:eek:. She was placed at anchor at a safe loccation and the passengers evacuated. The blame was placed on the Pilot who was on board at the time. I guess he would not be able to be responsible for rubber duckies in the bathtub now. Jenny
Aus Traveller Posted June 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Even if the pilot is at fault, it is the Captain who takes ultimate responsibility. Tough on him.
Kiwi Kruzer Posted June 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Even if the pilot is at fault, it is the Captain who takes ultimate responsibility. Tough on him. There is still a lot of doubt about to this day about the Mikhail Lermontov, which sank off Picton while under the control of the pilot. You can read about it here... http://christchurchcitylibraries.com/kids/nzdisasters/mikhaillermontov.asp lots more on google.... Pacific Dawn has also had its share of drama. I seem to recall, as Regal Princess, she hit , and got stuck on a sandbank in the Amazon River.

Bella cruiser Posted June 5, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted June 5, 2010 Don't worry Craig, I think from all we have heard she is a lovely ship and should be a favourite down here (provided P & O don't do anything too drastic in the refit). Hope to see you and other OV er's down here one day if you can face the long flight, you'd be made most welcome I'm sure.:D Jenny
