Anyone who has been on Alaskan cruise that includes evening in Victoria (7-midnight) - how does Princess handle dinner? Can't imagine all the late TD and perhaps a lot of the early TD alll rushing to the buffet.

Yes it was a crazy scene on the Golden for us.

The ship docked around 7:15pm.

We did anytime and so did everyone else.

We didn't even bother to go ashore. We are from the Seattle area and have been to Victoria before anyway. We preferred a nice, quiet, last evening on board. We had a hot tub to ourselves as the ship docked. We had a quiet dinner in the dining room after others had left the ship.

Perhaps some people choose to eat in town, rather than hassle with the crowds at the buffet.

We just did this on the Sapphire. We had AT dining and arrived at dining room about 15-20 minutes before it opened, which was always 5:30 pm. There was a short line. They opened the dining room early and we were seated quickly and had plenty of time for a nice dinnner. Note: Since we were going on a tour, we were dressed more casually than usual for us, which didn't matter at all.

After the tour about 10:30 pm we went to the Horizon Court for a snack which was a chaotic crowded mess!

Don't worry about your luggage. They WILL pick it up. Just put it out before you go to bed.

I forget the exact name but it was something like Victoria Highlights and Mt. Tolemei (sp?). In a bus we saw the city and stopped at a high scenic overlook and toured a Victorian mansion. It was a good tour. 3 hours long.

Since the Royal (and her sisters Ocean and Pacific) have only one dining room they don't offer anytime dining.

The solution for a late port call is to have open seating in the dining room as the previous poster said. This happened to us in St. Petersburg Russia on the Royal in 2008.
