Rome

We will be docking at Civitavecchia in August and will be taking the train to Rome. Is it possible to get off at Trastevere (near the Vatican) instead of getting off at Termini Station?

The previous posters are right, S. Pietro is the closest stop to the Vatican.

Yet, if you want to do some sightseeing in that part of the city, you can also get of at Trastevere.

The normal trains, which are coverd by the BIRG ticket, not the fast trains, stop at various stations in Rome which are convenient for different purposes.

Another example would be Ostiense for S. Paolo fuori le mura

The Civitavecchia train station is on Via della Repubblica, about five blocks (less than a half mile) from the fortress where the port shuttle bus drops you off.

The train trip takes between an hour and an hour and a half, depending on the train you take and the Rome station you get off at.
