ak12321 Posted July 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2010 We will be docking at Civitavecchia in August and will be taking the train to Rome. Is it possible to get off at Trastevere (near the Vatican) instead of getting off at Termini Station?
Rare cruisemom42 Posted July 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2010 You can get off at San Pietro, which is the closest stop to the Vatican.
KirkNC Posted July 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2010 San Pietro, the closest, is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Vatican. Kirk
carlmm Posted July 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2010 The previous posters are right, S. Pietro is the closest stop to the Vatican. Yet, if you want to do some sightseeing in that part of the city, you can also get of at Trastevere. The normal trains, which are coverd by the BIRG ticket, not the fast trains, stop at various stations in Rome which are convenient for different purposes. Another example would be Ostiense for S. Weluv2cruise2007 Posted July 14, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2010 Is the train station very close to the pier or is transportation to the train required? How long is the train ride into the city.
euro cruiser Posted July 14, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 14, 2010 The Civitavecchia train station is on Via della Repubblica, about five blocks (less than a half mile) from the fortress where the port shuttle bus drops you off. The train trip takes between an hour and an hour and a half, depending on the train you take and the Rome station you get off at.
CathyCruises Posted July 15, 2010 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2010 And I might add that just about everyone walks--there are taxis but they don't usually want to drive that short distance. It takes 10-15 minutes max.
