negrilbride Posted July 20, 2010 #226 Share Posted July 20, 2010 I am sorry for the lousy weather you have been having. I just found this post today and I've loved reading all your updates. As if I weren't excited enough, your updates are just fueling the fire! Here's hoping for some sunshine tomorrow!
dzboss1 Posted July 20, 2010 Author #227 Share Posted July 20, 2010 Anyone with rain gear in Central Park and Boardwalk :) I am curious if this less than perfect weather is forcing cruisers inside making the ship seem more crowded..have you noticed this No one out there really...the rains are heavy and it is thundering, but somewhat pretty from in here (because I am ON THE OASIS!)! There was a little line to get coffee in the promeande just now (it really seems to be the best place to people watch), and yes there are lots of people (which I like!) but certainly does not feel crowded. Infact, a few times earlier I asked...where the heck is everyone hiding!!???
dzboss1 Posted July 20, 2010 Author #228 Share Posted July 20, 2010 Some excursions were cancelled, some (water ones I assume) were not. People are using the solarium and hot tubs and generally keeping busy. Like I said...I do wonder at quieter times today where they all were!! I am dissapointed at this miserable weather (how can I not be) but thankful to be here and will still enjoy whatever direction this adventure goes. That's the nature of cruising!! Not always perfect! Tonight is jam packed so I am EXCITED!!! To be thruthful, I did enjoy "some" of the down time today. I don't "relax" much and although I haven't sat much except to post (I try and keep walking), it is nice once in a while (but not too many times lol!!) to have no where special to go. But nights are always crazy on a ship so that makes up for it!! I need to get another cruise booked on this ship! I don't know when, and probably won't be till next summer at best, but this is a tease!!!!! Need MORE MORE AND MORE! Going to check on hubby who must be back from his massage and showering. Can't wait for tonight!!!!!! Oh, someone asked about Fernando, the concierge, and where he was before. He was on Mariner and Freedom before this. Miss Dot Posted July 20, 2010 #230 Share Posted July 20, 2010 Good morning!!!!We have docked in St Thomas and it is pouring and the sky is full of lightening, but who cares.....I AM ON THE OASIS!!!! Updates before post responses...... Last night we ate in the MDR. The strawberry soup and cream of garlic (have them all the time on RCL!) were beyond delicious as usual!!!!!!!!YUM!! We hurried out of there at 7 to go see the comedy show. We had booked it for 9:30 but that would have interfered with the Love and Marriage show (we were too tired to try out though we never ended up going to sleep till 2am!!) so we went standby for 7:30 and no problem getting in. I left the names of the 2 guys we saw (we are in the concierge on 11 having breakfast) in the room but they were HYSTERICAL!! What a fun show and place to see the show. Little lounge called Comedy Live....don't miss it!! I may have been laughing in my sleep!! After the show we went to try another cupcake in the cupcake place. I take back my earlier post. Though the one I had the first day was dry, the banana one with banana cream cheese frosting was BEYOND words. I think I licked my figures more than once! We went to Love and Marriage which was funny as usual...not the funniest one I have seen...but still good. Richard Spacey is very entertaining and loves himmself as much as the audience. I should mention that when we were at the pool yesterday the pool patrol was out in full force and PA announcements were being made about the saving of seats. After L and M we went to the casino (it was about midnight) and stayed until about 1:30am....got back a little of what we have been leaving there! I AM HAVING SUCH A WONDERFUL TIME ON THIS WONDERFUL SHIP, HOW CAN IT BE DAY 4 ALREADY!!?? Next post is responses to your posts........ I am so sorry you are having BAD weather, however, you teach us all with your attitude....keep it up....so glad you are not letting anything spoil your trip on the Oasis! PortFever Posted July 20, 2010 #232 Share Posted July 20, 2010 So the weather is HORRIBLE (torrential downpours, lots of thunder etc) From the St. Thomas Skyride Webcam at around 5:30pm Eastern time...
sebritish Posted July 20, 2010 #233 Share Posted July 20, 2010 DENISE hope the weather improves for you but if you are on a ship when the weather is bad OASIS is the best... I feel bad for anyone who has never been to those beautiful islands. What happens with the Aqua show if it rains do they reschedule it? So enjoying your posts, thanks again for taking the time... Jimbo Posted July 20, 2010 #234 Share Posted July 20, 2010 From the St. Thomas Skyride Webcam at around 5:30pm Eastern time... I Thought Oasis only docked at Crown Bay in St. Thomas, how is that photo from the Skyride showing Oasis? Oh I guess now I know how, I see Oasis in the first 2 pictures also....I guess the zoom lense brings it in nice and clear across the bay. Jimbo:)
DPurcell58 Posted July 20, 2010 #235 Share Posted July 20, 2010 So it docks in Crown Bay? Still trying to figure that out.
dzboss1 Posted July 20, 2010 Author #236 Share Posted July 20, 2010 Hellooooooooo from my girlfriend the OASIS!!!!! Yes, we docked in Crown Bay. The aqua shows were actually cancelled due to technical difficulties the day before yesterday, but would have been for a few shows anyway due to the winds. But I was lucky to get to see it!! What I am not sure I mentioned, was we had 50-80 mile an hour winds yesterday as we sailed. It is still POURING but the winds have died down and its smooth. Weather tomorrow will still be bad, but that won't stop me! We have the bridge tour at 9am and will get off and shop for a bit. Can't have a bad time on this ship!! To catch you up..... hubby's massage was great!! I went to the TV and movie trivia at 5:15. I hooked up with 4 other people and WE WON!!!! We got refrigerator magnets...whooohooooo!! Dinner was at Chops and as usual...DELICIOUS!!!!!! Waiter was wonderful, service perfect!!!! Going to walk off dinner and then to the headliner show. Kisigi Posted July 21, 2010 #239 Share Posted July 21, 2010 We'll be sailing Oasis Eastern on August 14th (Mom, Dad and twin 13 year old girls). After reading your posts and everyone's enthusiasm, we're getting even more excited. Can you let us know who the headliner is on your cruise? Any way to find out how long they will be on or who is coming up in about 3 weeks?
Sugar*Magnolia Posted July 21, 2010 #240 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Hey Denice!! I think I read through the whole thread!! But, if I missed this, sorry for asking again..Did you go on the Zip Line or do you plan on it? Are there long lines? A charge? Open all the time or do they run it on a short schedule? We're scheduled to go on her June 2011!(also, do you know if they have real sushi? it is very confusing to watch the commercials for Allure, they are advertising sushi. I dont beleive it! lmao) Thanks so much for taking us along on your wonderful cruise! Stacey~
dzboss1 Posted July 21, 2010 Author #241 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Little time so I can't read your posts....but needed to update.... So here comes the "crazy lady" with her over the top enthusiasm but I have no choice....forgive me.....here goes....... EARL TURNER, THE HEADLINER, IS OVER THE TOP WONDERFUL!!! We just came from the Headliner show. We were all on our feet dancing and singing and having the best time! He can sing, he can dance, he can be funny!!! If he is on your cruise...DO NOT MISS HIM!!!! Also, Richard Spacey opened the show with a 5 minute dance routine that was AWESOME! He is funny and he can dance!!!! What a night so far....Chops, Headliner Show.....wow wow wow!! I dont beleive it! lmao) Thanks so much for taking us along on your wonderful cruise! Stacey~ Not to hijack, but I can help a little. On sea days, the zip line was open from 9 to 6. Early in the week, the lines were short or non-existent. Late in the week, at least an hour long. It is included in your cruise fare (no extra charge). Hours are published in the Cruise Compass. I believe the close the line an hour before the zip line closes. There is sushi in a restaurant called Izumi on Deck 15, near Windjammer. Reservations are recommended, but not required. They have a sushi bar where you can sit if you'd like. Pricing is a la carte. They also have specialties like rock-searing at your table. We didn't make it there, but it looked good, and we could always smell it during the day at the Flowrider! I have heard mixed reviews that there might be California rolls on the Windjammer buffet at certain times. I don't remember seeing them, but we only had dinner there once. Jimbo Posted July 21, 2010 #245 Share Posted July 21, 2010 So it docks in Crown Bay? Still trying to figure that out. I believe it docks at Crown Bay because the channel isn't deep enough at the Havensight Dock. Jimbo:)
cruising grandma Posted July 21, 2010 #246 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Oh, someone asked about Fernando, the concierge, and where he was before. He was on Mariner and Freedom before this. Thank you, Denise. We have been on both, so I'm unsure when we saw him. Who is the Captain???? I just remembered one of the captains for Oasis is one who was on Jewel of the Seas, Thor Torelson(sp). If it is him, will he be on Oasis in October?? Sending wishes for sunshine in St. Maarten!! :)
tezbear Posted July 21, 2010 #247 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Yay!..I'm so glad Richard Spacey is doing is famous dance routine...saw it on YouTube and it IS awesome!...Just wondering with all the rain and winds, how is the OASIS holding up...do you really feel the rocking compared to smaller ships? sandra3022 Posted July 21, 2010 #248 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Hi Shari Has your route changed at all? They are expecting a tropical depression to come through south florida fri. It is now near you all. I am really sweating this out. I live here in south florida and they will keep you all out there longer if it slows down and then our cruise will be shorter. Please post any thing you hear please .i would appreciate it. I am so excited reading your posts I hope this weather blows through here. We will shutter up anyway. thanks Sandi
boyintheshadows Posted July 21, 2010 #249 Share Posted July 21, 2010 I plan to go on this ship in December, but a few questions after reading these posts: - does this ship sell out or can i buy the cruise like 1 month before sailing with no problems? - does it often rain in the Caribbean the way it almost always rains in Florida? If that is the case then the Caribbean seems like a bad or at least risky choice for a cruise due to rain risk... - I tried to get on a chat forum on Royal Caribbeans official site, and it says i have to have this special crown status or whatever just to get a message board? STUPID... am I missing something? I can't become a crown member because you have to have cruised with them first... DUMB..
