Reserving Chops

Recommended Posts

We just booked! - Very late! This will be our first cruise!! We are a family of 5 and were only able to get rooms on Deck 2  - I hope I won't have a panic attack in the middle of the night!!

I would love to book a dinner for 2 at Chops and I would like to do that now. But I do not know when is a good time.. I know that Monday will be Captain's Dinner .. so, I am thinking of Tuesday evening.. How do the kids clubs work? Are they every evening open until late? If we would book a table at 7 pm.. would they (I have one child in each group!!) be able to hang out in their clubs while we eat?

Any advice would be very appreciated :)

I am very very excited!!!!

Hi,

Unless I missed it, when are you booked for and what ship? I don't know anything about the kids clubs, but I would recommend that you look at your itinerary and make sure if you are in a Port on a particular day that your reserving dinner, that you do it later so you don't have to rush back. Also, if you are interested in attending formal nights, make sure you find out which nights they occur. You can always make your reservations for Chops online, I'm not sure about the kids club though during dinner. You will love Chops. Just go hungry all day so you can save room for a wonderful meal. Have a great cruise.

We received a free dinner for 2 for either of the speciality restaurants from our TA :D. I enjoyed the MDR on my last cruise, and probably wouldn't have ever paid the $50 for us to go, but since its free, we'll be there.

My question is what day's dinner would you skip in the MDR (We are on FOS - W. Carribbean)? We also have 2 kids - age 13 - with us, and would also be interested in responses to the OP's question about the kid's clubs.

I believe the AO evening sessions start around 7 so I would make a reservation for 7:30. Take the kids to WJ for their dinner, drop them off at AO around 7 then go enjoy your dinner.

Most ships also have kids/teen dinners on some nights. They usually coincide with formal night though. That's another option for the kids.

Check out this site, created by a CC member here, that has a number of AO compasses listed. It will give you an idea of what you can expect.

As for the poster asking about the 13 year olds, they are on a much more open schedule. They will find food during the day, no need to have the teen center open for them while you dine.

When we were on Freedom of the Seas with our grandkids, there was a night or two when the Adventure Ocean program took the kids to Johnny Rockets for dinner. That was when we booked dinner at Chops for the adults and it worked out quite well. On other evenings the kids got expedited service in the Main Dining room and their parents took them to the program while we continued our meal. I believe that RCI now offers something called My Family Time Dining where Adventure Ocean staff come to the dining room during dinnertime and escort the kids to the program while the rest of you can finish your meal. You might want to investigate this program to see if it would work for you. Our grandkids really loved the program and are looking forward to it on our next cruise which will be on Liberty of the Seas in November.:)

Most of the Adventure Ocean programs open back up at 7pm (unless they have a dinner dining program, as they do on Oasis) and stay "open" until 10pm. At 10pm AO switches over to a late night program where there is a charge per child to stay. I believe it is about $6 per child/per hour.

Most dinners take about 2 hours, so use that as a time frame guideline for your reservations.

What we are doing on our next cruise, based on our cruise last summer and the available dining times, is booked 7pm specialty dining reservations and either myself of hubby will take the kids to AO after they eat while the other one checks in at the restaraunt, unless of course they decide to eat with AO.

Congrats on your cruise booking and enjoy!!!

Thank you everyone!! I have decided to book on a sailing day.. at 7:30 pm so that the kids can have their food first and then head to their kids clubs.

I am so so excited! We booked late.. and I am now so unpatient (we have 4 months to go).. I cannot imagine how it would be to wait over a year!! But I think that's what we will do next time..so that we hopefully get the better cabins :)
