TMWTim Posted August 19, 2010 #26 Share Posted August 19, 2010 Seems to be a lot of people that have been there and love it. So...could someone please suggest a excursion for us? We are heading there in a couple weeks. Thanks!
gargoyle999 Posted August 19, 2010 #27 Share Posted August 19, 2010 I'll be having a soft shell crab sammich, fries and limeaid for lunch at BO's Fishwagon on Nov 16th if anyone cares to join me. :D
LRene Posted August 19, 2010 #28 Share Posted August 19, 2010 Tim - Key West is the one place I'd say don't do an excursion. It's a walking town or you can take the conch train or HOHO trolley to get around. We'll be back there next month and I wish our ship would be in port at dusk/sundown! I'd love to be there for that.
vacruizer Posted August 19, 2010 #29 Share Posted August 19, 2010 We plan to do lots of walking around and no formal excursion. Plan is to hit the Hemingway House then Duval. Maybe a bar or two, some shops, see the houses and the sights. I have a friend who used to live in Key West and she has given me some ideas of restaurants and such but says to not plan anything and just wander and take in the atmoshphere. babyblue78 Posted August 19, 2010 #30 Share Posted August 19, 2010 I'll be very disappointed if the Key West port gets changed on my cruise, I am REALLY looking forward to that stop. Booked for Feb 2011 on the Freedom.
capndinghy Posted August 19, 2010 #31 Share Posted August 19, 2010 We visited Key West on our Cruise this past April. Key West is a great port and a perfect place to visit for the day. I think it would be a big mistake to drop it as a stop. From what I could tell the 'Conchs' were quite happy with the $$ the Ship brings to their Island. tnincy Posted August 19, 2010 #32 Share Posted August 19, 2010 I too, always enjoy a stop at Key West. I HATE to drive down there, but a cruise is the absolute best way to visit that GREAT town. Super entertainment, food, and just a fun spot. I can't imagine that Carnival would drop them from the list. "SKY" do you know about the Key West express out of Ft Myers? Cuts the drive time back. love key west. a little piece of the caribbean in the US.

luvmysox1 Posted August 19, 2010 #35 Share Posted August 19, 2010 Looking forward to my visit to the Keys in January. This is the port I'm most exicted about. I've never been there but looks like a blast.
lillian marie Posted August 19, 2010 #36 Share Posted August 19, 2010 Locals in Key West are not thrilled with cruise ships but the cruise ships bring in a ton of money for the local economy so I would hope the port stays open.. We'll be there on a cruise in Jan.
Carnival Platinum Cruiser Posted August 19, 2010 #37 Share Posted August 19, 2010 Can anyone tell me if Key West is being dropped from Carnival's list of Ports???Someone on the Key West board said it might happen because of the higher port taxes??? About as likely as CCL dropping Nassau the catch all of all ports. Ain't happening.
Cruisin 4 Ever Posted August 19, 2010 #38 Share Posted August 19, 2010 Key West is THE reason my wife agreed to go on the Fantasy in December. She loved that town and wants to go back. :) Me too. It's my favourite port. To me it's Carribbean meets Fla. meets New Orleans!!! Love it
matj2000 Posted August 20, 2010 #39 Share Posted August 20, 2010 Key West is a great stop but the biggest bummer is that most ships come early & leave early. My last visit we docked a 9am & left at 2pm on a Sunday. Nothing was really going on and many stores/Restaurants/Bars were closed. About the time things started to wake up we, had to leave. We did a stop on the Rhapsody a while back and it stayed till 11pm. The place is crazy at night on of the best stops ever....
ManyMore Posted August 20, 2010 #40 Share Posted August 20, 2010 We are the ones that pay port charges... why would they change because of that? We would just pay a higher port charge.
