"She" ?? , "Her" ??, "Ol' Girl" ??

All boats are called "she". I've never heard it any other way. It would seem strange it call it a "he" or an "it". It doesn't really have anything to do with the Navy so being landlocked doesn't seem to be much of an explanation. Ships were called "she" going back to ancient times.

 

Long ago, it was considered bad luck to have a woman on board a ship. Therefore, the ship was referred to by the men as the woman because of all the work they had to put in to "her."

 

That said, in present times, almost anything that we adore and put a fair amount of work and care in to is referred to as "she." This includes ships, cars, works of art, etc.
