Rare teacherman Posted August 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2010 We are going to Hawaii for the first time and are renting cars on all of the islands. My DW says that her brother SWEARS that people in Hawaii drive on the left hand side of the road. If so, this is news to me. Is this true? (Regardless of the answer, I am embarrassed to ask this question, but DW listens to her brother-sometimes)

jillyfish Posted August 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2010 :p maybe you should ask your BIL what country he thinks Hawaii is in. :D
DAGVBSB Posted August 25, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Hawaii is part of the United States.... they drive on the same side of the road as we do. Hawaii also has interstates! (now that is kind of a misnomer because you can't drive from Hawaii to any other state or even other parts of Hawaii...but oh well..) The three interstates in Hawaii are all on the island of Oahu and are named H1, H2, and H3. (supposedly they named them as interstates to get federal highway dollars.). Gas is much more expensive in Hawaii.. $3.70 a gallon in July, 2010. Of course a gallon of milk is even more expensive than a gallon of gas in Hawaii. Raison Posted August 25, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2010 I wish they did drive on the left...would make it easier for us Aussies! LOL:D
Rare teacherman Posted August 25, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Thank you for confirming MY beliefs. I am still embarrassed I asked this, and maybe also about my BIL. Happy travels to all.

tallyho8 Posted September 2, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 2, 2010 Not sure about Hawaii, but in Los Angeles they drive on the wrong side of the road sometimes. I have seen it on "World's Dumbest Drivers" many times. :)
Kissing Seahorses Posted September 7, 2010 #11 Share Posted September 7, 2010 Perhaps your BIL was thinking about the US Virgin Islands, they do drive on the left (a holdover from their British Colonial past) but the rental cars, being from the US, have the steering wheel on the left too, so still confusing for Brits and Aussies and US drivers as well. 6rugrats Posted September 8, 2010 #12 Share Posted September 8, 2010 My DW says that her brother SWEARS that people in Hawaii drive on the left hand side of the road. If so, this is news to me. Is this true? Only if someone gets confused because they are drunk or had too much pakalolo. Perhaps that's why your BIL was confused?? Or maybe he was just doing the typical brother thing.
