After dinner attire--FOS

Recommended Posts

Yeh...we don't change after dinner either. By then, I've already changed at least twice during the day and really don't want to again. And, I like being dressed better than we normally do. But, on Freedom in June, we did notice that it seemed like quite a few changed after dinner, unless they wore what they had on then at dinner. In general, I think people dressed a lot more casual than what I remember from our previous cruise 3 years prior.

Beachmom--that's my problem, too. If we're going to a show, I tend to get chilly in a dress, even if I have a wrap to cover my shoulders (and I end up wearing dresses most nights to dinner---sundresses on the casual nights) PLUS I also tend to wear heels to dinner and I can't imagine traipsing around the ship for hours after dinner in heels (and I've only been on small ships before). So I'm trying to figure out what in the world to put on for those hours after dinner. Do you guys see a lot of people in jeans (like dark, dressy jeans?) or is that too casual?

Actually, jeans would have looked better than some of the things I saw on Freedom. However, if I think about it, where I saw the extremely casual stuff (athletic type knit pants, short shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, etc) was in the promenade area during the evening activities (70's dance party, parade). In the theater for the evening shows, everyone seemed to be at least in jeans or nice shorts.

We have early seating and we change after dinner. I didn't even realize that there was anyone who gave that a second thought until some of the threads. The men wear a dark suit, tie, white shirt and dress shoes to accomodate the "fashion police" but after dinner, they are hung up in the cabin awaiting the next formal night when they will be re-worn and then tossed into the "has been worn; won't be worn again" suitcase. We look silly in cocktail dresses strolling with someone in cargo shorts and a t-shirt and besides, dinner is over. If I were at a resort, had dinner in a 5-star restaurant then went to a mall or to a movie, I wouldn't be in a cocktail dress because I would change clothes. Same on a cruise. If walking around in the Promenade with me in shorts on formal night is offensive, you aren't really enjoying your cruise as much as me.

We do late dinner and stay dressed - figure I went to all that trouble to do hair, makeup and clothes so why not enjoy it for the whole evening rather than just a couple of hours. I've always felt there's something kind of "James Bondish" to be in the casino in formal wear.

I'm with the previous post.....I stay the way I am. Plus it's totally up to you and how YOU feel. Who cares what others think. It's your vacation!!

We will be on freedom with you and I promise not to say a word at what you have on. :D

Totally agree! (except we will be on Enchantment) I still promise not to worry about what others choose to wear.

We usually have main dining, so after formal dinners, I change out of my dress and heels. I'm on vacation and want to be comfortable.

It doesn't bother me that after my dinner the late seating guests are all dressed up for their dinner. After all they are not dressed up, when I'm heading to my dinner.

On casual nights, I usually stay in my dinner attire. I usually have on pants, a dressy top and comfortable shoes.

It's your vacation, so wear whatever you want to wear.
