omaljoann Posted September 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2010 Hello, I have two choices for the itinerary I would like, Sept 3-15th or Oct 7-20th. Rome, Greece, Venice. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding crowds, weather, etc. as to the best time to go.
maryann ns Posted September 6, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2010 Both are good times. We were there in November and it was still warm. There will be fewer crowds in October.
riffatsea Posted September 6, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2010 I agree that both are great times but perhaps fewer people the later in Oct. you go.
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 6, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2010 Both are great times. All things being equal I would select October. The weather will be a little cooler than September and the places you visit will be a little less crowded. My favorites times to sail the Med are April and October. Bill S Posted September 6, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 6, 2010 I agree with the above posters. We did our first Med cruise at the end of September-still warm, but not too warm and lots of crowds. Our next one was in November--crowds were significantly reduced and the temps were mild-to-warm. My vote would be for October. Have a great cruise whichever dates you choose. :)
omaljoann Posted September 6, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted September 6, 2010 Thank you so much so the tips. I was worried it would be too cold, but I guess not.
jocap Posted September 6, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 6, 2010 No, not cold, but the weather does start to change after the autumn equinox, around Sept 21st. The daylight ends sooner, and the sea's beginning to cool down a little. Having said that, I've holidayed for years in the third week of Oct, and, apart from a chance of some rain, it's still fairly warm at the coast....obviously, the further south in the Med, the warmer. We've found it cool for swimming in northern Spain, but warm enough in Malta and Tunisia. Jo.
Happy ks Posted September 7, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 7, 2010 We cruised the Med in Oct. of 2008 and found it to be wonderful. I don't remember it being cold, perhaps cool in the morning. I have pics of all of us with jackets tied around our waists. We had one day with rain/hail in Rome for about an hour, we were in Italy/Croatia for 16 days. I'd go any time, except July or August.
