All Things Grandeur of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Regardless whether you requested the main dining room, you are free to enjoy your breakfast, lunch, AND dinner... and snacks ;) in between, at The Windjammer Cafè. On our last cruise (Nov 09), Captain Rob noted in one of his daily announcements, that more passengers had frequented the Windjammer Cafè then on any of the previous cruises. Something he was very proud of. So yes, by all means enjoy the Windjammer Cafè.

We're sailing the Granduer next month. I hope the hurricanes taper off by then.

Ok, the view from the Windjammer sounds amazing. I have to ask, since you've practically made me teary from the idea of looking out of those tall windows, can we go up there for dinner even if we requested the main dining room?

Ah geez! Watching that was torture! I wanted to be on the ship so bad! And there was a close up shot of the aft Royal Family suite balcony on deck 8 which I was fortunate enough to have that room on my last cruise on Grandeur.

I just disembarked from Grandeur yesterday. When I get my photos uploaded to webshots I will put some of those great RFS pics I have. WOW it was an upgrade for us and we sure were spoiled..that balcony is huge :)

I agree the ship is in great shape... there still was smoking in the casino on our sailing. Diamond & D+ event was held in the Champagne Bar..

We had a great comedienne Etta May..never laughed so hard. We had seen her before on a previous RCI cruise years ago

Yays! This is good to know. I kind of figured breakfast and lunch were open game but for dinner it'd be a good option too, especially the one day we're cutting it close getting back to the ship from an excursion. Just wanted to know if they frown on that or not. :D

Re: Smoking. It was announced on my last cruise on the Grandeur that smoking was going to be totally discontinued in the Schooner Bar and Casino. Just thought I would let people know.

Wow, do I hope that's true! We will be cruising on the 25th with my in-laws and my MIL is terribly allergic to smoke! And while I'm not allergic, it does tend to give me terrible headaches.

Can anyone tell me if there is a formal night on the 5 day cruise? I'm trying to decide if I should pack something dressier for that night. And does my husband need a tie for anything?

bailey - thanks! woo hoo, lobstah on night four!

We depart this week and I cannot wait. I got excited (and then disappointed) about no smoking in the casino - that would be amazing!!!!

Since it is just a 4-night, we are trying to do "no checked bags" on this trip, and will be carrying our stuff onto the plain and the ship. As a result, we need to pack light. DH is not bringing a suit or a tie. ....just a dress shirt and dress pants for dinner [okay, so he won't be formal but he WILL be better dressed than the guy who shows up in a wife beater, board shorts, and flip flops!].

I just loved reading this!! I've sailed on Enchantment 3 times but never the Grandeur.

My fiance and I are getting married aboard the Grandeur Oct. 28th! I've sailed many RCI cruises but this will be his first cruise ever and I really want him to fall in love with it as much as I have so we can do lots more cruising in the future!!

My review from 9/11/10 (5 Night Western - Key West, Cozumel, CoCoCay) with Compasses and pictures of Aft Junior Suite 7650 is posted here... http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1277771

We LOVED the Grandeur. We thought it would be a huge shock to our system to go from Freedom and Independence to an older ship like Grandeur -- but the crew really won us over. :D

We were on the Grandeur 9/25 - 9/30- We loved the ship.. Food was good. We really enjoyed a few meals and one not so much. If they have Beatlemania as one of the shows don't miss it. It was alot of fun.. If you like music make sure you see Johnny and the Take Four. They are really good. DH loved the casino. The poker machines were really friendly.

We REALLY LOVED our room. It was my 60th birthday and we had the Royal Suite. I was really spoiled. Loved it.

Have fun on the Grandeur

Irene

We will be on the Grandeur for Halloween Weekend as well! There are 12 of us traveling together and we're all in our mid to late 20's! My husband and I will be celebrating our first anniversary and our friends will be celebrating their 10th (we're the same age!)!

Maybe we'll run into each other! You'll probably notice us?? We dress alike each night! We have colors/theme nights! So... if you see 12 people dressed alike for dinner.. come say hi!!

And we'll be sure to congratulate you on your nuptuals!!

The Grandeur is a beautiful, wonderful ship. I absolutely LOVE her! The service is the best I've had. My wife and I sailed on the Radiance recently, and while she's a fine ship, we kept finding things that we liked about the Grandeur better. (This mainly had to do with the top-notch service on the Grandeur, versus the good-but-not-quite-as-good service on the other ship.)

Secret spots . . . hmmm . . . well, we dumb-lucked into getting a corner table on the lower level of the MDR, near the entrance. Remarkably secluded, almost as if you're in your own private space; and the window provides an excellent view of the sea. Plus, the MDR is one of the most beautiful "restaurants" I've ever seen, anywhere.

The promenade deck (Deck 5) is a quiet place to walk a loop around the ship, or just stare out to sea; there's never more than a few people there at any given time. If you want to enjoy a private conversation with someone but don't want to stay in your cabin, go to the Singin' In the Rain lounge on Deck 6; during the day, it's almost empty, and you've got great sea views to boot.

The new Windjammer layout works great, and the views from there just can't be beat. And the food's quite good, too.

There's simply nothing bad I can think of about this ship. I envy all of you who will soon have the great pleasure of sailing on her.

Grandeur is going to be taking over the Enchantment's run, first to the Panama and then up to Baltimore again...this will happen in November.

Can you elaborate on this please? The RCI website shows the Enchantment in Baltimore at least through 2012.

There was a surge of posts about her right after the Repo in the Spring, then again after the fire, but there hasn't been a ton lately. We are cruising in April and would love to read recent updates as, the CC reviews from the 2/18 weren't the best (very small sample). If anyone could post a recent 7-day Bahamas set of Compasses it would be GREATLY appreciated.
