bilyclub Posted September 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2010 The airlines know that a majority of their traffic will be from cruisers, yet a lot of the flights are taking off in the morning. Is this just a ploy to keep the fares on afternoon flights ski high ?
tompeter Posted September 15, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2010 There are a lot of early flights because airlines have flights coming in late the night before and have to be put back in service as well as people flying in Early AM on day of cruise. Twickenham Posted September 15, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2010 The airlines know that a majority of their traffic will be from cruisers, yet a lot of the flights are taking off in the morning. Is this just a ploy to keep the fares on afternoon flights ski high ? I doubt that is statistically accurate. Remember, most cruise turnovers are at the weekend, while airlines have regularly-scheduled flights throughout the week. Florida has a large number of visitors who do not cruise. Nasmas Posted September 15, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2010 I've wondered the same thing. The noon or later flights are always higher. You'd think someone would add a few more flights and they'd really rake it in. We didn't leave until 6 one afternoon after a cruise and FLL is not a pleasant place to be for that many hours. They wouldn't let us check our bags until 2 hours before. Delta agents are some of the rudest in the world. After we waited all that time, we got to Atlanta and found out we'd been bumped. That was the last time we used cruise air. Awful
royalcruz Posted September 15, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2010 Most of the people going through the airport are not coming from cruise ships. Some people like to fly out early to get somewhere in time to enjoy a full day there. If I was to fly to NY to take a cruise, I would need to fly out of FLL early so as to allow enough time not to miss the boat. There is no conspiracy.
RuthlessBunny Posted September 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2010 As a frequent business traveler, let me assure you that the early flights are for us. We need to fly in and out early in the morning to assure that we make our appointments at our destination. I know it's hard to believe but Ft. Lauderdale and Miami are places of business and commerce, in addition to being fine vacation and cruise destinations!
ptcruzers Posted September 16, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2010 April, 2010 we had a 12-something flight to BUF on Delta, the airline would not allow baggage only 2 hours pre-flight. We went outside and checked curbside approx 3.5 hrs prior to flight. I know that times change, but you could give it a try!!:D:D
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 16, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 16, 2010 The airport serves many locals and tourists who do not cruise. Keith
paminohio Posted September 16, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 16, 2010 I would assume that the airlines know what they are doing with respect to their flights and when to schedule them to maximize their profits (they are NOT a non-profit organization). I doubt they are flying empty planes in the morning!
BobT172 Posted September 16, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 16, 2010 FLL is very typical...every airport in the nation has alot of early flights...they get the passengers to the hubs for their next connections.. remember, an airplane makes ZERO money when it is sitting on the ground. RuthlessBunny Posted September 16, 2010 #11 Share Posted September 16, 2010 I haven't been on an empty plane, from anywhere or to anywhere in about a decade! They're all full, all the time!
