Passport...not what you think!

For those who want to know how long it takes to get a passport..it takes 7 days!:D

 

My MIL applied on Sept 24th and received it today Oct 2. We did not expedite. She was worried about not getting it in time for our Thanksgiving cruise.

when I renewed mine this summer, 5 weeks! But that was right about when the price changed.

I have had mine for years so when I have to renew I will do it with plenty of time before my next cruise.

I would not COUNT on getting it in 7 days....

It depends on where you have to send it. New Orleans takes about 3 weeks..That's what it just took for our renewals. Same for my sister for a new one.

Hey, I fully understand. My husband would probably do the same thing unless I reminded him!:eek: However, you are smart to get the passport!:D

Passport turnaround time is directly influenced by the time of year.

Spring and Summer take the longest, Autumn shorter, and Winter has the quickest return.

The reason is very simple.... more people want to travel in the Summer, and plan for passport time around the months prior and during.

The processing takes longer when there are more applications.

 

The best way to assure you get your passport in time is to push back your actual travel time on the form... They prioritize those who NEED it.

In other words, if you are traveling in October, put September on the form.

 

How do I know this? many many years in the business... :)

We applied on New Years Eve and received our Passports in the mail 13 days later - even with the holiday - and we did not expedite!

 

I thought that it had an excellent turn around time.

had ours back in approx. 10 days but renewed in plenty of time....they don't want to accept them in certain places if they are within 6 months of expiring....ours were within 4 months so just did it!

Since I believe we are only one cruise ship terrorist incident away from needing passports to cruise abroad, it would be wise to apply now before there is a terrorist incident. That is if you ever intend to go abroad...

 

After an incident, it could take up to six months for the turn around of an application for a passport. Frankly, some are gambling there won't be a cruise ship terrorist incident. My paid for vacation isn't going to held hostage by terrorists when the State Department decides to change the rules once again OVERNIGHT...

Took my niece about 3 wks to get her's - sent it off the last of August.

It's the government - they move at their own pace!!
