QLD coast cruises

when doing cruises up the QLD coast is the reason the ships go around Willis Island so that they can sell duty free, if that is the case then can you get TRS on goods.

ross, you can duty free on the cruise so i presume you can claim on your TRS goods

I'm with you there Ross regarding VirginBlue. I see on this mornings news that they will be shutting down the system this week in various stages. Apparently they will need to do this ongoing repair weekly until they've sorted it all out....

We know of someone who got stuck in Melbourne after the first AFL game and ended up having to pay A$2000.00 for the two of them to fly back QANTAS on the Tuesday.

We're flying in on the day we cruise in 3 weeks. We have got an early flight but that means nothing if we can't check in.

Another lesson learnt about flying in on the same day as the cruise sails.....I should know better!!

Yes, that is exactly right. We went on the Sun Princess and the captain explained thats how they got their duty free status by sailing around this tiny little weather station island about 260km out to see (roughly) Have a great cruise! :)

hmm i wondered that .. then thought that the man at the desk might not be there...

Hi Guys,

Good to see you are off on another cruise shortly....thats excellent ...really looks a good intinerary. You really must like princess cruises...but I can understand that...their ships are very good.We are off to Phuket in May and have booked Radiance of the Seas in feb 2012....going sydney to freemantle.we are looking forward to that....a different ship to cruise on.

Not a long time now to your world cruise....that should be brilliant.

The answer has to be yes on both counts.

We recently returned froma trip where we did the sail past Willis island. There was a conversation broadcast between one of the people working on the island (there are apparently 4) and one of the ship's officers and that interesting, then we watched a weather balloon being released. But quite frankly, we were a fair way off from the island and it was not all that special or scenic.

There would be absolutely no reason to make a special effort to cruise past it except for the fact it allows for duty free shopping.;)

I also heard-not sure how true this is-that because the ship goes into international waters, it can buy its fuel a lot cheaper.

I also heard no GST either. Its interesting to note that some of the Round Australia cruises now also include a call up to Bali for the same reasons.

GST does not apply to 'overseas' cruises such as those going to Pacific islands or the Q'ld coast cruises that go past Willis Island. It is likely that circumnavigation cruises also cruise past Willis Island for the same reason.

I am curious whether GST applies to cruises to Tasmania. Can someone who has done one of these cruises answer this question?

hi AT, we have been on the cruise to Tassy but not sure about GST but you cannot buy duty free alcohol or smokes onboard but they still operate the casino

Here's Willis Island......taken just a few days ago.

Isnt it manned by 2 people who are there for like 6 months of the year....No dashing down to the local store for a packet of biscuits or milk if you ran out...I personally think i would go mad.... :)
