bluenoser2 Posted October 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2010 We're flying into Orlando, and renting a car for the drive to Port Canaveral. We'll be going to the Kennedy Space Center on the way to our hotel at Cocoa Beach. What kind of tolls on the highway are we looking at? I've read that some rental cars come with a transponder for this - do they all? Is that what is meant by "not getting in the wrong lane" at the toll booth? Any help would be much appreciated. EatonDoolittle Posted October 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2010 The far left lanes are for pre-paid transponders - Sun Pass. Those lanes do not stop, your pass gets read as you drive under and it fee is noted. I travel it all the time, but have a pass that my Company pays for, so I don't pay attention to the price...in the $2 to $3 range, I would guess, not more. Someone on this board will know If you are paying cash and / or need change, stay to the right. I don't know how the rental car companies do it, but if that is your only trip, there are only one or two toll booths, not worth paying any "convenience" upcharge, if there is such a thing. If you are doing any more Florida driving than just to the port, it may be worth it to look into it further, there are short term pre-paid passes available for visitors at turnpike stops and Publix grocery stores. go to sunpass dot com
Clarea Posted October 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 14, 2010 From the airport to Cocoa Beach on 528, there is a single $1.50 toll for passenger cars. From farther west, say I4, I believe there are 2 more tolls going eastbound to Cocoa Beach, each $1.50 per passenger car.
