Hawaiidan Posted October 28, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2010 Is it worth it to you??? Thats is what it boils down to is you! A person who loves inside cabins will say no. A person who loves penthouses will say yes A person who has only been cruising a few times wont know what to think. None of them are you.
Cruise Fanatic Posted October 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2010 If the upsell if less than what the original price of the SA Suite, I would take it. A couple of years ago, I was offered a upsell from a SY to a SS for 199pp, I jumped at it. Love those Deluxe Suites.

GeronimoAz Posted October 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 28, 2010 How do you get these upgrade offers? Do you have to ask someone, or just hope to get lucky and get an offer?

serendipity1499 Posted October 29, 2010 #11 Share Posted October 29, 2010 How do you get these upgrade offers? Do you have to ask someone, or just hope to get lucky and get an offer? Actually these are not "upgrade" Offers they are "Up sell" offers...Now we got ours because we heard on our roll call that they were offering them.. We were booked in an outside cabin..So we called our TA & told him we would like to be considered for an "Up sell" to a Lanai..He called HAL & had a note put on our reservation.. TA called us a days later & we were offered an "up sell" to a balcony for $199 per person or an "Up sell" to a Lanai for $99 per person..We took the Lanai..:D:D:D cheers....:)Betty
edcrfv Posted October 29, 2010 Author #12 Share Posted October 29, 2010 We didn't get an Aft cabin, we're on the Port side not to far from the Neptune Lounge.
Bill B Posted October 29, 2010 #13 Share Posted October 29, 2010 One of the great mysteries of life....I don't think anybody, including HAL, knows. ;):) It's not a mystery at all. They oversell certain categories on 'guarantee' bookings. When it's time to assign rooms, they offer people 'upsells' before they give away 'upgrades'. Every upsell offer accepted is extra revenue for the line.
DutchByAssociation Posted October 30, 2010 #14 Share Posted October 30, 2010 Could anyone tell me if it is worth $299 pp to upgrade from SY to SA/SC on Eurodam. Thanks in advance. In my opinion yes. The extra soace in the room and on the verandah will be nice, the complimentary laundry, pressing and dry cleaning helps it to pay for itself, the Neptune Lounge is a great perk and the other amenities don't hurt either :)

I'm not convinced, based on postings here on the many upgrade threads, that up sells are always offered before unpaid upgrades are. That said, I'd actually say the mystery to me is the pricing convention, from full fare difference to "bargain basement". I'd agree that it makes much more sense from a business point of view to start with minimum discounted up sells and work from there. HAL obviously has some kind of cost/time/benefit formula, or at least you'd hope they do, but it's not obvious.
