jenwill69 Posted November 5, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2010 Hi all, We are first time cruisers to Oceania - Crystal and Holland America. We wanted to do Alaska again this year and saw the itineraries that Oceania had and liked them. Will we be disapointed? Jennifer
Rare Caroldoll Posted November 5, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2010 we decided to try different cruise lines. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. My husband and I are going on O in December. We are looking forward to the relaxed atmosphere. I have told my friends, we are grown up now and don't want to be told how to dress and when to eat! But over all, you find the best of each cruise line and focus on that. I am sure that there is a light years difference between the two, but in life you have to focus on the good...not comparisons. My opinion.
Rare LHT28 Posted November 5, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2010 Hi all, Will we be disapointed? Jennifer Probably if you are going to compare things on Oceania to Crystal but if you go with an open mind & a sense of trying something new you may just like Oceania Only you can make that decision Hope you enjoy the cruise Lyn
happy cruzer Posted November 5, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2010 What category cabin are you used to and what did you book on O? That may be the biggest difference along with night time entertainment.
ctjon Posted November 5, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2010 eager to hear your experience and feelings since we have been Crystal cruisers for years but now booked on O for next year.
Druke I Posted November 5, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2010 I for one much prefer Oceania to Crystal, which I found "stuffy". Too many passengers and crew with superiority complexes on Crystal for my liking.
cruzmaven Posted November 5, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2010 I recently took my first Crystal cruise after several on Oceania. I must say that while Crystal was very nice, it wasn't leaps and bounds over Oceania. The service on Crystal was overall exceptional and the staff and crew very friendly and efficient. Service on O is very good as well but not as polished. The ship itself, the Symphony, was nice, but not nicer than the Regatta. Bigger, and therefore some bigger facilities (showroom, casino, movie theatre, etc) but not maintained any better than the Regatta. Food is subjective but I did not find the food on Crystal to be superior to O. Although I loved Silk Road on Crystal and I'm looking forward to comparing it to the Asian restaurant on the Marina. So, if you board with the right mindset, there is no reason to be disappointed. If you can be happy on HAL ( not my favorite) you should be thrilled with Oceania. Have a great trip, Alaska is beautiful regardless of what ship you're on.

orchestrapal Posted November 5, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 5, 2010 I'm not Caroldoll, but she has posted that she books Crystal's top suite, the Crystal Penthouse. Chances are she'll LOVE the Owners Suite on Oceania!:)
Rare Caroldoll Posted November 6, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 6, 2010 Owners Suite. This cruise was made away to me way late. I guess basically Vista is Bow and Owners is Stern..which we much prefer. We are hoping for an upgrade. My husband is unusually tall and requires space.
