Emerald and Carribean Princess- Are they the same ship?

Hello,

My husband and I took a wonderful cruise on the Emerald Princess a year ago. We are looking to take another cruise and love the itinerary for the Carri bean Princess. While we had an amazing time, we really enjoy learning a new ship and are wondering if the emerald and the Caribbean are exactly the same? Are there any differences?

Thanks!

Nicole

Not exactly. I've cruised on the Caribbean Princess four times and sailed on the Emerald three times. Some similarities; some differences.

Emerald Princess has Adagio Lounge with Sabatini's on Sun deck. No Adagio on CB, and Sabatini's is on Promenade deck. Crown Grille and Wheelhouse Bar are in different locations on both ships, as well. The new Crown Grille on the CB is awesome!

There might be a few other minor differences, but these are the features with which I'm familiar.

Bon Voyage!

Chris

I'm not an expert ( 2x on Emerald and 1x on CaribbeanP ) but ... the main difference I noticed was the Piazza on Caribbean P had a smaller feel to it - more crowded. I love the Piazza on Emerald and I almost felt claustophobic in certain places on Caribbean P's piazza. Also Emerald is newer than CaribP and feels 'newer'. Just fresher! Maybe it's just me but I prefer Emerald :D

I agree, but Emerald, Ruby, and I suppose Grand are more like twin sisters and the CB has different composition of decks and features (check out the deck plans).

Grand-class "sisters"...

  • Grand Princess - For a time, she was the largest cruise ship in the world.
  • Golden Princess
  • Star Princess

  • Caribbean Princess - Same form-factor as previous Grand-class ships, with the inclusion of an extra deck (Riviera) and the addition of MUTS where the covered pool used to be.

  • Diamond Princess - Evolution of the Grand-class with Skywalkers moved to just behind the funnel. No extra Riviera deck and no MUTS (at least in the original design).
  • Sapphire Princess

  • Crown Princess - An amalgam of the Caribbean Princess and Diamond Princess designs with new interior design, extra deck and dedicated MUTS pool.
  • Emerald Princess
  • Ruby Princess

The Piazza and International Cafe on the CB was added in the drydock, as well as the casino being moved up to deck 7, and the Crown Grill and Window Suites taking the casino space on deck 6. I don't think the Emerald has the sports/cigar bar on deck 6 either (although I can't say with certainty that the CB still does now, but it did before the drydock).
