loves2cruz Posted November 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2010 We'll be staying at the W for two days this month. Would really appreciate any suggestions for breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner. Any real finds or shouldn't miss restaurants or experiences? Good food, nice atmosphere and moderate prices would be great. Thinking about trying Casablanca for one of the nights. Is this walking distance? We do enjoy seafood. Is there a nice place for lunch in the "W" worth trying? Probably will want to stay around the pool at the W one of the days. Thanks everyone for your suggestion of Kelly's Landing. We ate there during our recent stay in downtown FLL. We greatly enjoyed the excellent food and friendly staff. Definitely a place to return. Canuck455 Posted November 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 16, 2010 We are also staying at the W for one night pre-cruise. Interested in a nicer restaurant and would like to hear about them. traveling with DH and DS (18 yrs old).
SailingGrace Posted November 17, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 17, 2010 Staying this weekend and plan on the water taxi Saturday so we won't be dining at/near the hotel. I heard this hotel is awesome...can't wait!
royalcruz Posted November 17, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 17, 2010 There are servers at the W (Wet) pool who will bring you lunch right to your lounge chair and the food is good. 954Steak under the pool serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner but it is expensive. There is a French bakery next door outside the Hilton that serves light fare for lunch (counter service but there are some seats indoors and outdoors.) Casablanca Cafe is about 4 blocks south on A1A. H2O is about 8 blocks south. Spazio is 2 more blocks south. They are all in the high end of moderate. Some people like Lulu's Bait Shack in BeachPlace for it's lively atmosphere and moderate pricing. The hotel restaurants are more expensive, but there are several nice ones in the area. Quarterdeck is inexpensive and the food is decent. It is a sports bar about a mile walk from the W. royalcruz Posted November 18, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 18, 2010 fmax, only a few of these are walking distance to the W. fmaxwell Posted November 18, 2010 #12 Share Posted November 18, 2010 Thanks for the feedback on the list. That helps a lot. I'm only there one night pre-cruise so priority is a really nice dinner possibly somewhere for breakfast the next morning, if I don't eat in the hotel. Canuck455 Posted November 19, 2010 #13 Share Posted November 19, 2010 Thanks for all of the information. Our priority is a nice dinner night before. We have learned (the hard way) to just get coffee/very light breakfast/or bring some energy bars in the morning..plenty of food once on the ship!!!! I know I should not wish time away...March will be here soon enough!

The French bakery at the Hilton might be a good light breakfast choice. The Deck, a few blocks north, serves breakfast but I don't eat there. I believe breakfast is served at 954 Steak and Shula's also, and there is a full service Starbucks 2 blocks away at the Westin.

Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted November 19, 2010 #17 Share Posted November 19, 2010 We ate at Lulu's prior to our cruise and we thought it was terrible. The service was ghod, our meals were horrible. We were looking for a casual, easy night and left very disappointed. On a side note for those who don't like smoke, We sat on the patio and the amount of heavy smoking that went out around our tables made it hard to enjoy our meal. I'm not anti-smoking, just don't care for it while eating food and every table around us had more than one person smoking the entire time.

I feel the same way but many tourists love the place so I didn't want to discourage anyone from trying it. Like most places, Fort Lauderdale is smoke free indoors, so if you sit outside you are likely to encounter cigarette smoke, especially in a bar atmosphere. Service also tends to be worse outside because it is further from the kitchen, but Lulu's is not the place to go if you want good service anyway. It's a fun bar to go to in the afternoon during spring break season though, as it has a great tiki bar atmosphere.

We have those tourist places here in Naples and I don't go, but I was pretending to be a tourist! Many places here that have that same type of patio are now not allowing smoking if they serve a lot of food so it was a surprised to see it. I wish that was the case here...some restaurants even allow cigars and the smoke burns my throat. The Village Grill in Lauderdale by the Sea is on a corner and has smoking on one street and no smoking on the other street.

loves2cruz Posted November 20, 2010 Author #22 Share Posted November 20, 2010 Thank you so much for all the information. I'm looking forward to our couple of days at the "W". Probably will have dinner at Casablanca the first day, lunch poolside at "W" the next day. Not sure about second dinner. How far is it to go from "W" to Kelly's Landing? Apprx. cabfare? Is there a bus or perhaps water taxi? Thanks

royalcruz Posted November 22, 2010 #25 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Do you know about how long the ride would be by bus? Thanks I don't ride the bus, but by car it would be about 10-20 minutes depending on the drawbridge, so figure just a little more by bus (bus loading/unloading is very efficient, exact change required).
