how much alcohol can you bring back to the states?

It depends. I would suggest you go to the US Customs website. There are special rules for bringing back alcohol from the Caribbean, allowing you to bring back more from places like St.Thomas. Other than that you are allowed one liter per adult duty free. You can bring back more but have to pay a tax of about $2 per liter, but they normally waive anything under $10.

Unless you live in Texas .. then there are no provisions for paying the extra tax and you can only bring 1 liter.

yes but its my understanding that this is only enforced if the ship returns to a Texas port.

BTW the reason alcohol is expensive is not the Federal duty(which is a $1 or 2 per bottle) but for local state taxes.

The only limitation is it has to be for your personal use. If the customs people think you are bringing it back to resell, they can stop you.

Normally its one liter per adult duty free, unless you stop on certain Caribbean islands then its up to 4-5 liters duty free as long as one comes from that Island.....
