dreamweaver89 Posted November 22, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 22, 2010 We sailed on the Triumph to the Bahamas and Key West from November 13th to the 20th. I got hit with a violent headache and nausea just as we were waiting to disembark in NOLA. Still sick after three days. Anyone else have this happen to them?? firefly333 Posted November 22, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Iv picked up a cold twice on cruises, both my B2Bs. I try and not touch the hand rails and public surfaces any more than I have to now. sorry to hear you are still sick. I hope you had a good cruise otherwise. nps001 Posted November 23, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 23, 2010 I get that after every cruise. It's called cruise withdrawal and usually goes away after I book another cruise. :) All kidding aside, I hope you feel better soon.
golfadj Posted November 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 23, 2010 This happened to me and a bunch of folks from the ship earlier this year on the Freedom. After three days you might want to see a physician.
cruisingirl75 Posted November 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 23, 2010 Every time I cruise I seem to come back home with a really bad cold (usually caught during the last part of the cruise).:(
jetskier Posted November 23, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 23, 2010 The same happens to me after most cruises, I come down with a bad upper respiratory infection. Dave
Irishlinny Posted November 23, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 23, 2010 I am a big proponent of taking Echinacea (herbal capsules made from purple coneflowers which boosts the immune system). Between the germs you can get from the ship (and the plane if you fly), we need all the help we can get. I used to take it for the 3 weeks before we cruised and then during. The only time I got sick (a terrible 3 week respiratory virus:() was the time I didn't take it while on the cruise. Lesson learned. I now take it all the time and really don't get sick:) Hope you feel better soon!

Anyone else have this happen to them?? not to scare you, but my grandson returned from a cruise (large family group) and had a headache that was something you can't describe.........short version he had meningitis. he apparently picked up something in mexico or my daughter's idea was the water swishing up your bottom end on the water slide. a kid don't know how to keep legs together and what goes in must come out so maybe a germ fest. what ever happen a serious headache can be bad news. cb at sea Posted November 24, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 24, 2010 Sounds like you picked up Noro! You'll recover...it's not only a "cruise" thing!
Mrs.C05 Posted November 24, 2010 #12 Share Posted November 24, 2010 Not that I care to jinx myself, but I don't think I've ever gotten sick, except for a stuffy nose or cough from a cruise. Thankfully nothing serious. How are you holding up now though? Are you feeling any better?
Robwerks Posted November 24, 2010 #13 Share Posted November 24, 2010 I can suffer these symptoms if I spend a lot of time in the casino. I am not an anti-smoke freak but too much second hand smoke causes me to have headaches and upper repiratory issues. Sailing on the Triumph come April. I think I'll try echinacea this time. Hope you feel better resl soon!!
lovedogs Posted November 24, 2010 #14 Share Posted November 24, 2010 The same happens to me after most cruises, I come down with a bad upper respiratory infection. Dave Happened to me on my October cruise - got sick the very last night of the cruise, and was sick for 3 weeks after! Took two trips to the doctor and two rounds of an anti-biotic to finally get rid of it. My daughter said to me "mom, you get sick after every cruise - maybe you shouldn't cruise anymore" I just looked at her like she was NUTS! (And then, I booked our next cruise :p) Lindsay
FreezingInMichigan Posted November 24, 2010 #15 Share Posted November 24, 2010 Just left the Liberty on Saturday and had the beginnings of a cold by Monday. Full blown sore throat and headache now. Jogged my memory that the same thing happened last year after the Valor. I chalked it up to the weather change (warm Caribbean to cold Michigan) but could easily just be something I picked up on the ship. Close quarters increases the odds. Still a small price to pay for a great vacation. :)

If we drive to the port, he doesn't get the cold.
