Hi,

There are a number of options to get from London to Southampton.

I suggest Googling "Getting from London to Southampton" This will list options such as National Express - Coach option from Heathrow or Central London.

Train is aonther option but you would have to travel into Central london and get Southampton train from London Waterloo.

If you're on the 4 June Eclipse, check out the Roll Call and get some ideas from others who are on your same cruise. Maybe you can share transportation. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1201362

When we sailed in 2003 from Southamton, we had the hotel in London arrange for a car and driver...Went to Stonehenge and a few other places, with a stop to get some supplies. Great trip!

In 2006, we took the cruise transfers. Worked well as we weren't spending any extra time in London before we sailed.

Do you mean you are flying in that morning and transferring straight down to the ship? If so (apart from pushing your time frame) the 3 practical alternatives are car service, cruise line transfer, National Express coach. Of these, cheapest is the NE coach. They run about every hour from LHR to Southampton Bus station, which is about a £7 cab ride from any Soton cruise terminal (there are 4). It should be about £15 ea, but can be less if you can get a 'funfare'. More details at http://www.nationalexpress.com/coach/index.cfm.

If going into London first (for a day or 2), train is best. Waterloo to Soton can be got for £1 ea at www.megatrain.co.uk or Victoria to Soton on Southern Railways website http://www.southernrailway.com/ usually for about £3.50 - £5. Lots more info if you search the 'Britain' board where this question has been asked innumerable times.

One other option if you need to go straight from Heathrow to Southampton and want to skp London is to take the aircoach (bus transfer) from your Heathrow terminal to the train station in Woking where you can pick up one of the frequent trains going to Southampton.

We used National Express Coach in august frrom LHR to SOU to board the Crown Princess , and it was effortless, when we arrived in SOU we simply grabed a taxi to the pier.. Easy Peasy :) and only about 7 pounds each..

I used a car service, Blackberry Cars, from Heathrow to our hotel. I already had other arrangements but I think their price from London to Southampton was 85 pounds. It may be higher for you since you will need a bigger car. You can get a quote online. They were prompt and courteous.

We transfered from our London hotel to the Southampton port via Smiths for Airports. They picked us up on schedule and dropped us off right at the entrance of the dock Terminal. We were there in no time at all and travelled smoothly and seamlessly considering all the rain falling that day. Another item to consider is the cost of four tickets and transfers, stairs, waits etc. as opposed to one car fee. You can email them for a quote and weigh it against your other options.

OK, in that case its a bit different. Presumably you haven't got a hotel lined up yet, so this is going to be a bit subject to what you do. Easiest ways from LHR to London are:

1) NE coach to Victoria coach station in Buckingham Palace Rd (about 300 yds from Victoria Rail Station) about £5 ea

2) Heathrow Express or Heathrow Connect trains from LHR to Paddington (£15 and about £10 respectively)

3) Tube (under £5 to anywhere in London), but you may have to cope with stairs at your destination station.

4) Car service (don't use a black cab, it will cost you £70+ and won't be as quick due to traffic)

The way I would get from London to Soton is Megatrain. They 'hire' one of the carriages on the normal SouthWest trains service and you can get it for £1 ea instead of the usual £30 or so. You can book about 40 days in advance. The only major drawback with this is that you must use the service you book, but as there is one every hour, this should not be a problem to book one that suits your timetable. A black cab from most of the likely hotels you will stay at should be under £15 to Waterloo.

We have used Woodford Chauffeur Cars for years and have been very happy with them. They are really nice people who have gone above and beyond for us on several occasions. We will use their services again in October. They have all sizes of vehicles and can usually accomodate any size group. They are big time cruisers as well.

We did the Megatrain round trip Southampton/London in September. Loved it - it was great. At the train station, they told us just to get on any coach that was not first class, and take any seat.

You buy your Megatrain ticket on line. They actually don't issue a ticket, just a confirmation that you print out. Take the confirmation to the station, show it at the gate to get to the platforms, get on the train, and then show it again to the conductor when he comes around. Couldn't be easier.
