oasis. nice ship. poorly run.

I got home from my oasis cruise and thought I would write about my experience.

 

the stateroom Stuart was great but very overworked. he couldn't help me with some of my small requests and I don't blame him, he seemed way overworked.

I had to push my beds together right before bedtime because he didn't get to it in time. I had to remove everything from the mini fridge so is have a place to put my soda and it took days for the Stuart to do anything with the stuff from the fridge that I had to remove.

the dining room staff were not very good. when I went to dinner at 9:30 one night they had the nerve to tell me I couldn't have the three appetizers I wanted instead of the entree.

many of the bartenders don't have enough training. if you order a drink off the menu they were fine but a simple mixed drink (Runny Nose) was a real chore to get made right.

the ship was beautiful to look at but it's too bad there was a smell of sewage in lots of places. the worst had to be in central park one night. not enough air movement I guess in central park. I felt bad for the people with central park balconies...Yuk...can't imagine spending time on the balcony with that smell.

the food was good overall but i wish all the dinning venues weren't so crowded all the time. windjammer was way too small. tables there and most other restaurants were too close together. one poor lady knocked a table over because she was too large to fit in between.

two children were allowed in the solarium all week. bit of a nuisance to have to put up with them splashing in the solarium pool even after staff was made aware of the problem. their parents must be important people to royal Caribbean because I don't know why nothing was done about it otherwise.

just bad service throughout the ship. too bad. the ship is great but the experience was not.

A lot of the complaints are unfortunate but not worthy of condemning the entire staff over. I've had a bad stateroom attendant before and you can't really complain about not eating off the complete menu that late in the day.

 

I am concerned about the smell in Central Park though. I've got 2 balconies on deck 10 reserved. Can anybody else confirm the odor issue?

When I was on Oasis the smell was never in CP, although we did smell it when we were in someone's Boardwalk Balcony.

 

I don't think I've ever been on a ship that doesn't have that small at some point or another.

Please make sure you correct your spelling.

It is a stateroom Stewart.

Comes from the ancient Scottish clan called the Stewarts who used to specialisng in making their cabins look smart and presentable in the times of William Wallace

One might take that as a positive - a subtle hint to stay out of the restaurants for a while. :D

I checked the other three posts the OP started or commented on. One was about the corruption of tipping, another about how to smuggle alcohol on board and the final one comparing the buffet to livestock feed.

 

It is quite probable cruising isn't the best type of vacation for the OP. Hopefully they will find something else to their satisfaction when they take a vacation. On the other hand, if you were on the Oasis and these were your only comments, you probably complain about everything.

You showed up for dinner at 9:30!!! You have got to be kidding me! You should have not been served at all! Get real will you. The waiters work very hard and for someone to come to the MDR at 9:30 IS JUST WRONG!!! Sounds like another case of "no matter what you do you won't be able to please me"

You can't be serious with this, I realize that all passengers cant' be happy all of the time, but when I read the part about you entering the dining room for dinner at 9:30 is where you lost the credibility with me.

I find it hard to imagine the stateroom stuart/Stewart/steward allowed refrigerator items to sit a week on some surface and not attend to them in some fashion. The attendant is responsible for those items to keep track of what has been consumed and to see to it that consumed items are charged to the passenger's Sea Pass. He cannot simply allow refrigerated items to deteriorate outside of the fridge.

 

I do agree that the stateroom attendants and the waiters have a very heavy work load, especailly on Oasis and Allure. Like others here, however, I find it hard to believe the OP was even on the ship. I'd like him to be more specific about what he liked and din't like. Maybe he would be more convincing. For example, did he think the Central Park area was pretty? Did he enjoy the casino? How did he find the zipline adventure to be? How were the shows? Did he dine at Chops or Giovanni's Table or Izumi? How were the ports? What was his itinerary anyway?

I have read enough around here to understand that people get suspicious when someone with a low post count has something to say about their cruise.

 

its ok, I forgive you all for trying to dismiss my experiences.

 

how does someone prove they went on a cruise, especially in a online environment?

 

funny, I thought I was being balanced about my criticisms.

 

I only went to the show in the aquatheater, it was good and Im sure the participants are all great athletes, it just didn't excite me.

 

I chose not to get off the ship at any of the ports and instead try to enjoy everything the ship had to offer. like I said, the ship is beautiful but the service did not match the wow of the ship itself. Far too many service issues and that is what I thought others thinking about sailing on oasis might want to know. anyone can write a glowing review but how do others know the real story if people like me don't mention the shortcomings?

you can doubt me all you like but these were my impressions and i hope to help people make an informed decision about sailing on the ship.

for those that asked...I loved cp except for the sewage smell. I loved the bw especially the bar that is really close to the aquatheater. I hated the fitness center...felt too dark and closed in when compared to ones I've used on other ships like the radiance class. hated that there were no steam/sauna for free like other ships. loved dazzled...looking out those huge 2 story windows. didn't use the casino but walked by it many times. liked the diamond nightly event in blaze.

trying to come up with other things to help make believers of some of you skeptics but is all I can think of now. oh and iPhone autocorrects some words but o don't think my room stewards name was Stuart....

I'm going to post a "sort of" defence of the OP here.

 

I was on the Allure on a pre-inaugural a week or so ago.

 

1) Think I have reviewed elsewhere that I thought the Windjammer was too small, with issues over laying out food too early and thus the food being cold when we we arrived (we do get in first thing in the morning but that is no excuse). We also commented that on all full ship the WJ was ludicrously small and in fact smaller than Freedom or Voyager ships.

 

2) My wife and I both believe that, whilst we appreciated that there was an element of crew assimilation we felt that there were issues in terms of work load and

 

3) We would find the ship unbearably crowded if it were cruising full, especially on sea days, consequently we felt that if we were paying, we would not look to cruise on an Oasis class ship and would probably stick to Voyager, Vision or Radiance. (I guess you can tell that we don't feel that bigger is necessarily better)

 

WE LOVED THE RISING TIDE BAR!!!!

We were on the pre-inaugural Allure cruise 11/29 and had a wonderful experience with great service anywhere we went. Now the ship was only half full with TA's and D+ people like ourselves, but we thought the ship felt empty given the various areas from around the ship for the passengers to disperse to. The dining room staff was exceptional, but perhaps that was because they had less tables to wait on, I'll have to wait and see that part.

 

We never went to the WJ, but I do hear that it's small but with so many eating venues from around the ship, it was never missed. We would gladly like to give it another try with the ship full for comparison.

Horses for courses I guess. (we were on the pre-in before you.

We were blown away with the actual "architecture" of the ship, but as I say, if I were paying it would not in any way be my ship of choice.

 

Big ain't always better, for us anyway.
