sr5242 Posted December 21, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2010 We are booked on the jewel cabin 7172. Balcony looks smaller than other afts. Anyone have experience with this cabin? Would we be better off in 7600/7602/7604 hump rooms? Especially to be near the elevator? Thanks
reallyitsmema Posted December 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2010 We just had 7172 on the Jewel in October. The balcony is not as deep as many aft balconies but it did have two chairs, two chaise lounges and a small table. We enjoyed the balcony as we have our other aft balconies but there was only two of us. The cabin is directly over the Safari Lounge and we heard music every night until at least midnight. Most nights it wasn't too bad but one night it was very loud and went until 1am. We also had terrible weather our last day coming back from Canada and ended up with water in the cabin. We were running from the tail end of a noreaster with rain coming horizontally at the back of the ship. The rain came in under the slider doors, filled the channel of the slider and then would spill across the carpet as the ship rocked. Our steward told us that all the aft cabins were having issues and we eventually got the rug taken care of later in the day as we were told ours wasn't as bad as the higher cabins and they were working their was down cleaning carpets. We would try for a different aft if we sailed that ship again but would probably take it again if it was the only corner aft we could get.
KroozFoolz Posted December 21, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2010 We were in 7600 (hump) and then 9660 (aft) on Radiance recently. 9660 (a D2) was a bigger cabin as well as having a much larger balcony. Looking at a travel website for your sailing, 9092 (D2) is available. I would look at that. Bigger balcony and hump location.
sr5242 Posted December 21, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted December 21, 2010 Thanks all for the info. Does 9092 have two chairs and two chaises also?
Tim,n,Sue Posted December 21, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2010 We had 7172 and could hear music every night. The balcony is quite big but as big as the other corner afts on the port side. We would still book this room again but only if other afts were not available. The music was annoying but the aft views more than made up for this. KroozFoolz Posted December 21, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2010 from a thread re Radiance 9092: We've had 9092 and 9078 many times. Great cabins, extremely convenient, huge balconies with to loungers, two chairs and a table. One side of the balcony is a solid wall, and because of this and the bumpout of the ship, you can only see forward from 9078 and backward from 9092. Plenty of shade and sun on these balconies, and the location is just so convenient! You'll love it! and more info on Jewel 9092: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1258143&highlight=9092 (see posts 9, 10, and 11)
Jimbo Posted December 21, 2010 #7 Share Posted December 21, 2010 Think I would go for D2 cabin 8170 on the aft. Jimbo:D
sr5242 Posted December 22, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted December 22, 2010 Kroozfoolz- Thanks so much for the heads up about 9092. We switched to that. With my mother's mobility issues she'd never be able to walk half a ship to the elevator several times a day.
KroozFoolz Posted December 23, 2010 #9 Share Posted December 23, 2010 Happy to learn that worked out for you and your mother. The aft balcony cabins are great, but it is a very long walk, especially for someone with mobility issues. Good to know about cabins 9078 and 9092.
