Hopefully someone has taken the train from Rotterdam to Brussels. We are interested in doing this. Have eight hours in the port. We know where we want to go in Brussels from the Central Station. We checked the eurorail schedules , but need some additional information. Has anyone done this? Thank you.

There are frequent trains between Rotterdam Centraal and Brussels Centraal.

There are regular trains, traveltime around 2 hours and "speedtrains"- traveltime 1.35 hr.

Regulartrains donot need advance-reservations, speedtrains do.

All details can be found on this website:

In case you think this takes up too much of your time, consider a visit to the nice old town of Delft. Much closer to Rotterdam and also easy to reach by train. http://www.delfttoerisme.nl/eng/index.shtml

Here you have the Thalys site which is the speedtrain

http://www.thalys.com/be/en/?time=1297959157

If you have 8 hours it could be a litte tight. However.

Note that the speed trains station in Brussels is Bruxelles-Midi and not central. This is not a major problem as you can immediatly take one of the many local trains. Approx 5 minutes to Bruxelles Central.

When you are leaving Brussels Central walk simply down and you will be strait to the Grand Place with the City Hall and the historic center.

ps driving by car is no alternative... even when the highways are good, you will be in traffic flows in Rotterdam, Antwerp and Brussels... and back!
