EPIC Poll - Would you sail again?

I would definately sail Epic again. I would probably get a much more inexpensive room like maybe a studio.

Epic has just so much to do that I need to go back and try different things like shows and restaurants I have not been to.

I also would love to sail with an Epic virgin and show them all around. You really are never bored. I watched one review many months ago about sailing Epic on ports you have been to before so you can explore the ship more. I agree. If i sailed Epic again, I would probably not get off the ship. Hit the gym and then the spa and enjoy a much less crowded ship.

I also wonder how often NCL will change the entertainment on the ship

... with an "Epic virgin", and then you get a studio??

:D

I would definitely cruise on Epic again. Had an inside, studio stateroom and was very pleasantly surprised. I am claustrophobic, but the lighting and corridor window made it feel very open. I thought the cabin was very well designed, given the space. Never had to wait in line to board or exit the ship. Don't know how they did it. The ship never felt crowded.

The entertainment was great!

I guess I'm a 4 since I've booked the 2012 October transatlantic on the Epic.

However after that it will likely be a 3, kind of disappointed that they will stop doing Western Caribbean routes after they return from Europe. If I'd known that I would have done the Western back in October then I could have done the Eastern later on. But I really have no interest in doing the same itinerary that I've already done, but of course that could change if I need a warm getaway and don't care where the ship goes.

3 for me. Sailed using the Villa and we didn't find it nearly as enjoyable or relaxing as the villa on Pearl and other ships. My biggest complaint was the amount of planning it takes on the Epic to have dinner and/or see a show. We had a weather change reverse port visits and we found ourselves with no bookings one night and double booked the next because of port times. Not surprising and NCL did its best but when I was "working" to resolve this I wondered how this was considered relaxing, being off the clock, or freestyle? Given the right factors I would do Epic again but not pay the higher fee for Villa privledges.

Having booked the Epic two years ago for a Dec. 18 sailing, the more I read on CC and the more I thought about it, the more I began to dread making the decision to sail on such a big ship with see through bathrooms, a smoky casino, too small a casino, etc...

As I sat on my bed in my aft cabin waiting to head off to the Manhattan room for the life boat drill, the more I kept telling myself, this was going to be a one and done cruise.

But by the end of the week, I had completely changed my mind, after having one of the best cruises ever.

So what if the bathrooms aren't perfect, it's just me and my wife and the cabin is a little small but who stays in their cabin. I found the cigarette smoke in the casino didn't bother me, as long as I kept my distance from those lighting up.

One of the big problems I found was there was too little time, to do everything you wanted to do so my wife and I are planning to do it again.

I rate this ship a 5, mainly for its outstanding crew, who are the ones who truly made our cruise one to remember.

For everyone that has sailed on the EPIC I'd like to know what category you fall under:

1) Never again - I regret sailing her in the first place.

2) One & Done - I enjoyed our EPIC cruise however I would not sail again.

3) Depends - Enjoyed our cruise and would sail again depending on itinerary.

4) Absolutely - Loved the EPIC and would sail again regardless of itinerary.

#3 - kind of.

Lots of good and bad. We went on the first cruise from Miami and Epic was my least favorite cruise ever. Maybe because I was overly excited and expectations were really high for a new ship, maybe the ports (been there), maybe because nothing worked on the ship (too new), the ridiculous bathroom set up, or the size. I'm just not sure. The entertainment was great so if the deal was right, I might go again. I certainly didn't hate it. A bad day at sea is better than a good day at work!

Put me down for a 2. This was the 1st time we were on NCL, Princess 7 times,RCCL 2, Carnival 1. We were fully aware of the "difference" in this ship, but what we couldn't deal with was no promenade (sp?) deck, so few windows to see out (so when you were inside, you had no idea you were on a cruise)

The entertainment was good, the food was fair to good, the service was outstanding, except for 1 manager at the service desk who was quite rude--when I gave him $225 of OBC certificates to put on my account, he took them, said "You'll see them in a day or two on your account", then proceeded to put them away. When I asked for a receipt, he got very offended, then said "Well, MAAM, sorry we can"t do things to your liking" then actually shoved them at me. It was uncalled for.

Would we try another NCL ship? Maybe.

I have no idea how I forgot about the walking deck! I really disliked that about Epic compared to other walking decks on NCL. I always love deck 7 on the other ships and Epic really lacks in that department! AND, you're right about the lack of windows. It really had a Vegas casino type of atmosphere where they keep you "locked up", lol.

Quick question for anyone with knowledge of the Ice Bar.

I understand that you can stay in there for 45 minutes. Do most people make it that long?

If they open at 5:00 --- does that mean that they won't allow another group in until 5:45 or so? Or can people come in at any time, as long as there are not too many people in there?

THANKS!

Tom

(PS) I will post this also as a new thread, which is likely more appropriate...

Can I have a 5?

We LOVED the Epic on our November cruise. But, we also really enjoy trying out all the different cruise lines and ships. I'm hoping to get on the Oasis or Allure in the next few years to compare... and then... whatever is the next newest & biggest ship!!

I will go with #3. We sailed on Epic back in October and had a great time (although I will agree that the casino was a bit smoky). I'd definitely sail her again -- but destination matters to me. I wouldn't sail ANY ship regardless of itinerary.

Tom-N-Cheryl, the ice bar was a hoot!! We were dressed warm, but we only stayed 30-35 min. People kept coming in and out. Unless it was very busy, I don't think they'd kick you out. Please wear socks, sneaks, long pants, and a sweater or sweatshirt. I couldn't believe the people who had on shorts ,sandals or high heels. They were complaining it was soooo cold---well, yah, people it's an ice bar and they tell you outright it's 17 degrees inside there!! Bring your camera in--a few people didn't and they were upset. We had no problem taking tons of pictures. The drinks were great. Along with BMG, the ice bar was tops on my list.:D
