Depends on the cruise....which ship and when are you sailing?

Many people myself included will wait until we are on the ship, meet our tablemates and than decide when and if we want to have dinner at the steakhouse one night.

No need to make a decision beforehand.

do they fill up? i also have a 6 year old that will be in the camp- a date night. so im trying to plan in advance .

i just dont want to miss the opportunity by not making reservations.

Typically, the Captain's reception is the night of the first full day at sea, also the first Elegant Evening. However, it has changed somewhat. There's no longer free drinks for an hour. The reception is conducted on the Promenade Deck and drinks, at all of the Promenade Deck bars, are one dollar off for three hours.

The second Elegant Evening would most often be the fourth or fifth evening of your voyage. That's when lobster is often served along with prime rib.

Hope this helps...

I doubt you will not be able to get a reservation, more likely you might not get the time you want.

The steak houses tend to fill up fast on formal nights...but dining there at least once is a must! And, if you don't get the time you want, you can always make a reservation for a different time and put your name on a wait list. Just keep going in and talking to the hostess/staff - bug them enough and they will get you a table at the time you want just so you leave em alone!;)
