lauren0309 Posted January 4, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2011 I have the Visa Royal Caribbean Credit Card which I have used towards on board credits and free cruises. I was wondering if I can get points using it towards paying off a loan or do you just get the points on purchases only?
nancronin Posted January 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2011 Do you mean you'd take a cash advance or use a check from that visa to pay off the loan? I don't think you get any points for doing this. I know I didn't on a few of my other cards. :(
Sugar*Magnolia Posted January 4, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2011 I was almost positive you get points for anything you're able to use the card for.
suezyq50 Posted January 4, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2011 Call and find out. You get it for lots of other payments, not sure about a loan.

If you are saying you want to transfer debt to your credit card from a loan, then no points. Charges only
flcruzer03 Posted January 4, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 4, 2011 Sadly you only get points for purchases..not for balance transfer's or other similar transactions...I know I was going to use one of the convience checks they send you to buy a car & when I called to see if I would get points for the check was told no...:( bummer...would have been a nice little chunk of points! clean1owner Posted January 4, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 4, 2011 If the holder of your loan will take the credit card as payment and run it as a regular transaction, you get the points. I had a customer buy a new car and used her Airline points card to pay the first $10,000.00, and took out a loan for the rest. As soon as the charge posted, she paid it off and used the credit card to pay off the note. She ended up getting points for the entire purchase of the car. Griswolds Posted January 4, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 4, 2011 I am trying to use some of my points today too and ran across the official terms & conditions. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/content/pdf/VISAterms.pdf
lauren0309 Posted January 5, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted January 5, 2011 Oh well. I was going to use it to pay off my line of credit on the house. Then when I get the bill I just pay it off in full. Guess I'll have to make larger purchases!
JRandAJsMom Posted January 5, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 5, 2011 Not sure if RC works the same, but I used my Disney Visa to pay off my Disney Vacation Club Loan and paid it off right away then got points for that... Sounds like you might be thinking along the same lines?
