brucory Posted January 23, 2011 #26 Share Posted January 23, 2011 If we can't get hold of a LARGE ice bucket (They do exist, and if you can get one and like chilled wine or champagne, ask the steward to LEAVE it in your room), the next best way is to put ice AND water in a plastic bag in the bathroom sink.... Chills anything within 10 minutes!!! :D:D:D
Tricia724 Posted January 23, 2011 #27 Share Posted January 23, 2011 I've given up ordering items for my cabin. I always used to call HAL and order champagne and chocolate covered strawberries for sailaway. The last couple of times the wine was in an ice bucket, but all the ice was melted and the water wasn't very cold. The strawberries were sitting on the table with a napkin over them.....damp and sweating because they had been there too long and were no longer chilled. I think that they were placed in the room when the steward finished cleaning it, and it was several hours before we got there. I know that turnaround day is crazy for the stewards so I never really got upset about it, but I did learn from experience. Now I just lug on a couple of bottles of the wine I like, and go to a bar or the pool deck and buy a glass of wine for sailaway. It's much easier. Typhoon1 Posted January 23, 2011 #28 Share Posted January 23, 2011 We've always received our welcome aboard champagne in an ice bucket. Whether it be a Deluxe Suite or as a gift from our TA.

NMLady Posted January 23, 2011 #31 Share Posted January 23, 2011 Yes. It may be a suite thing VS other rooms. We had a veranda room last time and there it sat, on the table. DCC We were in a veranda and the 'bucket of beer' we'd pre-ordered not only wasn't on ice in a container but there was no container in the room at all other than the usual small ice container. There was simply a 6-pack sitting on the counter. I put one can on ice in the ice container, couldn't find our steward, so when we went to dinner I left a note for the steward. The beer cans were in a silver container of ice when we returned to our cabin. I don't know why that couldn't have been done in the first place. Next time we pre-order we'll specify ON ICE and see if that gets it done.
iceman93 Posted January 24, 2011 #32 Share Posted January 24, 2011 Add me to the list of people who have NEVER had the sparkling wine chilled when we got to the room, and that includes six cruises in the penthouse. It doesn't matter if it's the free stuff or a bottle of nice stuff that we pre-order, in every single case the bottles are just sitting there on the counter at room temperature. Cruisin Suzin Posted January 24, 2011 #35 Share Posted January 24, 2011 Would the same work for a chilled beer...I am in SS category..would I ask ship services when I order the beer?? Not sure if they have any control over these things....nothing worse than a warm bucket of beer. Well I guess the warm champagne tops that. Boytjie Posted January 24, 2011 #36 Share Posted January 24, 2011 If you preorder beer or wine, they don't know exactly when you plan to drink it. As for welcome aboard beverages, I can see that should be chilled. We have only once had a bottle of sparkling wine waiting for us on arrival (it was chilled) but then that was from the Hotel Manager. :)
ironin Posted January 24, 2011 #37 Share Posted January 24, 2011 or when your room steward comes to greet you, just ask him for some ice.:D Bingo!:D Works for me! (After all, they don't know when someone will actually board the ship, and something freshly iced @11AM will be sitting in lukewarm slush @4PM.)
