GoingPlacesSoon Posted January 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2011 Which of the balcony cabins on the Diamond Princess are covered, which are uncovered? What is the best way to insure getting a covered balcony cabin on the Diamond? Thanks!
cherylandtk Posted January 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2011 As with the other Grand Class ships and derivatives, Caribe is half-covered, Dolphin is not covered and all others are fully covered. Aft Caribe and Dolphin are fully covered. The best (and only) way to get a covered balcony is to book it, and mark your booking no upgrade. Although if you are booking a balcony room, it is rather unlikely that you will be upgraded to a mini-suite, which is what is on Dolphin (uncovered deck). Toto2Kansas Posted January 23, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2011 I totally agree, if you must have a covered balcony, do not book a guarantee but only an assigned stateroom, and make sure to mark you booking 'do not upgrade'. If you leave it open for upgrades, you might be disappointed in what they assign you. Good Luck!
Wishing on a star Posted January 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 23, 2011 Unless you are going for an AFT cabin (facing off the back of the ship) or a mini-suite, you might want to go with a balcony on Caribe. They are 1/2 covered. They are larger. (the extra depth is what is left uncovered)

2278 Posted January 24, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2011 On the Caribe Deck, stay away from cabins 115 and lower, the balconies have a steel front to the balcony, the only way you can view is by standing at the rail. This is due to the structrual supports for the bridge.
