Pros vs.Cons ..Upgrading from CC Class to Celebrity Suite

number8

Recommended Posts

We just upgraded from Concierge Class to a Celebrity Suite on our Panama Canal Cruise in March on the Infinity. I was just wondering what the pros and cons of moving up to Celebrity Suite 9096.

I know we don't have a veranda now and this will be our first time in any kind of suite. Any information would be very helpful before we set sail in March.

Thanks

That strikes me a a "balcony" type of cruise, and that suite doesn't have one?:confused:

I guess if you won't miss the balcony, it's a nicer cabin on every other front so what the heck.

For me, I'd rather have the balcony (and the $$$$ saved)

My 2 Cents

The only con I can see would be not having a balcony. There are many lovely outdoor areas on the ship where you can enjoy a balcony sort of view, so that shouldn't be an issue. If it is oppressively hot or raining, you will be able to enjoy the view from your floor-to-ceiling windows without melting or getting wet.

I did not watch any of the Panama Canal transit from my balcony. Watched most of it from the aft deck or in my friends' aft CC1 cabin. In one lock, I moved down to the promenade deck--was hoping to be able to reach out and touch the walls of the canal as we were lowered. My arms weren't quite long enough.

So, enjoy your larger cabin and your butler and get out and see the transit from outdoor areas on the ship!

Other considerations:

Do you take lots of photos from your balcony? If so, would you be satisfied having sea salt sprayed glass instead?

Just as there are outdoor areas for public viewing, the ship also has interior public areas where anyone can enjoy the views from floor-to-ceiling windows.

The huge panoramic windows in the public areas actually provide better and more expansive views than the windows in the Celebrity Suites.

So you will have access to both types of viewing regardless of which type of accommodation you choose.

You are only limited to one or the other in your own private living space.

With the suite, you get a butler, a big plus for some people but not for others.

Do you like being able to air out your cabin with fresh sea air, or does that not matter to you?

When you are hanging out at your cabin, do you typically like to sit inside the room or out on the balcony?

The extra space inside the Celebrity suites can be wonderful for those who spend a lot of time in the cabin or who want to have the bedroom separate from the living area.

If it is a free upgrade, it comes down to a matter of personal preference. Some people mark their Concierge Class reservations "Do not upgrade" because they don't want a Celebrity Suite, while others are delighted to get such an upgrade.

We were in the suite immediately below 9096 on the same cruise as JannandJohn and have been in 9096 on Millennium TA.

I think that 9096 is a great choice because it is forward facing and does not have the window washing equipment as the aft facing suites have. We were lucky enough to be invited onto the Bridge for the first half of the crossing, had lunch at the rear of the ship and watched the rest of the crossing from our suite using the webcam on the TV to see what was coming. Pretty near perfect. You can get some great photographs from the suite despite no having any balcony.

9094 and 9096 do have some shading from the overhang and it may be better to change to 8104 immediately below 9096, if you can but I would prefer 9096 to 9094.

Hi! We managed a Royal Suite TA on Constellation in November. Never thought that I would love anything as much as the CS but the Royal was wonderful. But I think the CS is perfect for Alaska. Off in less than a week for Quest in Asia.

Richard is fine. Working hard to pay for the cruises.

Hello, we just got off the ship.........I'll answer any questions that you may have.

But avoid this "Celebrity Suite" like the plague. It is directly under the pool bar/hamburger stand. It is horribly noisy.

After three days of complaints, Celebrity gave us another room on, I think deck 3 to sleep in. We toddled down there in our 'jamies' and got to sleep.

This suite is so noisy, you wouldn't believe it. If you're stuck in it already, -lean on them for another sleeping room.

The second week was in a Sky Suite, -deck six, -and it was great.

Think about it. Any night when they do a deck activity, at 12 midnight till about 2 they push trolleys back and forth above your head.

The room is beautiful, -(we missed the balcony desperately) -but huge (stuffy, no air, etc) but we would never go there again.

Cheers,

Barbara

We are not light sleepers and usually are burning the midnight oil at the disco or the Casino. During the days at sea we're usually at the pool so I really dont think we would be affected by some noise on the pool deck,

Thanks for all the comments and tips so far...

Keep em coming

Well, never do it for all the reasons above! And most of all because the CC1 Class Staterooms available on aft are truly the best if all! They offer 180 degree views on huge verandahs with lounge chairs, privacy and wonderful excercise walking back and forth.

I cannot agree. Our first cruise was in a CC1 Stateroom and we would never willing have such little space again.

We weren't fortunate enough to get one of those aft rooms. We originally had 9102 and had the opportunity to upgrade to the CS. We have 3 other couples going with us that are located on the Sky Deck which is also another reason for staying on that deck. One of the couples has an aft CC cabin and the others all have verandas. So I guess if we really miss the outdoor veranda we could visit their cabins.

We were in 7138 on the Connie Jan 3,2010 thru the canal.

We would take this over a balcony if the price was good in a heart beat. The views from the floor to ceiling windows were fantastic. We really enjoyed all space in the suite.

They are nearly 200 SQFT plus a spacious verandah on S Class ships.Hardly small! 99% of cruisers use the stateroom to sleep and bath and thats about it in most cases because everyone is exausted.Nobody wants to waste additional $'s just so they can pace back and forth in their stateroom, especially one with NO VERANDAH!!

If anything,a Sky Suite would have to be it but a "Celebrity Suite",I don't think so!

I guess I'm in the 1% that spends some time in my cabin. If you have never stayed in the Celebrity Suite then you could never appreciate what it has to offer.

I could have had an aft balcony for that cruise and chose the CS. Having had aft balconies in the past this decision was a no-brainer. Just my 2 cents.
