Cincy-David Posted February 12, 2011 #54 Share Posted February 12, 2011 We could also do without the barber shop -- who really uses that? ! I am pretty sure the barber shops are being phased out and being replaced with the Cupcake Cupboard on those ships. A good move in my opinion. rharvey999 Posted February 12, 2011 #56 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Wow, some well thought ideas. I do like the covered solarium but am almost afraid of what it would be like to find a chair during those cruise days coming back to cooler climates. Chair hog heaven would probably begin about 3 AM. Perhaps a bit old fashioned but I would like a return to a smaller ship which would go to more out of the way ports, where the mega ships simply don't fit. This is nothing to do with a new ship, but I would like to see what RCI could come up with regarding a "drink" card, similar to their soda package. funfamilyof6 Posted February 12, 2011 #59 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Pool with slide Deli with made to order sandwiches - I think Oasis/Allure has this but we want a smaller ship like the freedom Bungee Trampolines and most importantly a buy one get one free cruise :D
kmrnclrk Posted February 12, 2011 #60 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Just my personal take: Build the ship from the OUTSIDE-IN. I never understood why all the shops and attractions are only accessible from the inside. A simple covered (or uncovered) "promenade" that you can walk down and enter into shops/casino/bars/etc. would be nice. Keep the people outside and it'll feel less crowded. Use all glass doors/walls to the outside and it'll also feel less crowded. Adults only area w/pool. Even a small one. Must have a sushi bar. Keep with tradition and have many bar options. Sports, cigar, wine, pool, dance, piano, atrium, casino, etc. That's really all I can think of. Biggest thing is keeping people outside. And where you can't, at least have a view of outside. It's all about tricking the mind into thinking the ship is bigger than it really is.

B-52 Posted February 12, 2011 #62 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Word is out, what features would you like to see on this new "Sunshine" class of ships. Share your thoughts. My thoughts - McDonald's at sea. A Wall-mart!!! Those RCI Shops are just too expensive.

aldope Posted February 12, 2011 #64 Share Posted February 12, 2011 The word is quickly spreading that Royal Caribbean has signed a letter of intent to build its next generation of new cruise ships. (At 158,000 tons and carrying 4,100 passengers, they're more Freedom-sized than Oasis-sized.) We're curious: What would you like to see RCI include on these new ships in terms of dining, public spaces, activities, etc.? Self serve laundry More air conditioning in rooms Free Style similar Epic, etc. bring liquor on board and liquor at reasonable prices on board Free wifi on board
seaofwonder Posted February 12, 2011 #65 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Well, since the question is asking what you'd like to see on a new SHIP and not what changes the company should make fleet-wide (which is what MANY people are posting): - more unique shopping experiences on the Promenade and just more to do on the Promenade period. Maybe adding a sit-down restaurant on the promenade (not the cafe)? - like others said, a TRUE adults only pool area - a bigger running track (I haven't been on Oasis yet though) - outdoor eating area for the Windjammer - a variety of speciality dining at different price points. I don't like to get dressed up for all my meals, so it would be nice to have more casual dining options that aren't just JR (perhaps something on the Promenade - see above) - plugs near the bed and clocks in the room! - curtains that completely block off the couch area

Shooraq Posted February 12, 2011 #67 Share Posted February 12, 2011 I like the idea of a Spanish Tapas restaurant. A brewery styled pub where you can get specialty craft beers (for those of us who are beer snobs and not wine snobs.. heehee) More crafts activities, like glass blowing or bead jewelry making. deborahjo Posted February 12, 2011 #69 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Actually I would have loved to see a smaller ship. Around 3,000 guest. These ships are just to big for me anymore.... I will sail the smaller ones where I will be extremely happy.

RBCL Posted February 12, 2011 #71 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Oh - please - no Mcdonalds! Actually, there used to be a Mcdonalds on a cruise ship but the operating costs got to high and the line replaced the restaurant with their own. RBCL Posted February 12, 2011 #73 Share Posted February 12, 2011 I think RCCL should continue the 'open' concept, but with no Boardwalk. Maybe combine Central Park and Roya Promenade. Something like this:

We did the Spanish Tapas on Oasis in vintages and it was great so that would be easy for RCL to do.
TravelerThom Posted February 12, 2011 #75 Share Posted February 12, 2011 I think there ought to be an inside pool (not the solarium, which by it's very name ought to be in the sun!)...I think you've been conned by what RCI calls a solarium. Every definition I can find of solarium refers to a glass enclosed room. So by definition, a solarium pool should be indoors, but still exposed to the sun.
