Any recent CENTURY cruisers?

Hello...

Thinking of sending somebody on a 4 night Century out of Florida.

I've read the reviews, but was hoping more people would chime in.

How was your recent experience on Century vis a vis food and service?

Have you done a 4 night cruise and other than the shorter trip, do you feel there's other differences where compared to a longer cruise?

Thanks

We sailed on a 5N West Caribbean on The Century this past January 15th. I was very impressed with the service and food. For an older ship, we were treated like royalty. A lot of our staff (room attendent & waiter were quite seasoned with a lot of experience). The sad thing is the following week we were on the Solstice, and our experience couldn't have been more polar opposite. (Granted, we were one of the unfortunate Noro cases, but it still did not stack up. Pretty ship, but the service was just not there.) = ( I'd go on the Century anyday!

We sailed in January on the 5 night W. Caribbean cruise to get our Elite status. It was one of our best cruises. The food was great, we chose Select dining and the service was great and our cabin steward was outstanding also. Would not hesitate to recommend or sail again on Century. In fact, we are booked on Century for May 2012 Wine Country cruise!

I love the Century. The way you have talked about the Mercury, Jedi, is how I feel about the Century. I did two transatlantics in 2010 in a sky suite, with absolutely wonderful care from our butlers, and the food and service was extraordinary everywhere as well. Murano's is as good as any of Celebrity's specialty restaurants and quite beautiful. The service is fabulous too.

We are leaving on the Panama Canal cruise on the Century, in another sky suite, at the end of April. The sky suite verandas are huge ... not penthouse or royal suite of course ... but large enough to be another room, hence why it is a suite.

Feel good suggesting the Century. It is a fine ship with special crew.

Does anyone have experience with the kids club on this ship? Are there not many kids on Celebrity Ships? We're thinking about taking a short trip in two weeks and have never been on a Celebrity Ship. Have done RCL Oasis, disney and some Carnival. We don't want out kids to be disappointed and bored if there's not much for them to do.

Thanks!!

friends of ours took their first cruise on the Century in Jan. They took their two young daughters as well. They had a fabulous time and the kids had a blast. From everything I've heard and seen Celebrity is top notch no matter what ship. We go on our first Celebrity cruise on the Eclipse 4 weeks Sat, can't wait!!!!

DH and I sailed on the Century 5 day beginning 1/17/11 - did it btb with a 2 day.

We enjooyed it so much we will be sailing on her again 4/2/11 for another 5 day.

The only difference between the 5 day and longer cruises was the length.

The service, food, and entertainment were comparable to a 7 day or longer cruise.

Hope you enjoy your cruise, OP. The Century is a great ship!

Agree with all u say with a few small additions if I may please: not all Sky suite balconies are large - the S2s are on the Penthouse deck amidship are just 69 sq', although that said even that is a nice size but nowhere near the the size of the S1 balconies on the Sports deck where u were..

Celebrity says 179 sq' & Cruisedeckplans.com says 142 sq'..I trust Cruisedeckplans.com over Celebrity as they, in my experience, tend to exaggerate as do most cruiselines..Must be trying to get us to cruise hmmm? :)

As far as the balcony making the Sky a suite I also believe its also the Butler that does that and lets not forget the premium paid over the cost for a regular cabin also of course..

Have great cruisin'! :)

Nonsense! All sky suites, on both penthouse and sports decks, have the same large verandas since 2006. Only a small handful are configured differently, I think they are wheelchair accessible, and have smaller verandas.

No one is trying to pull a fast one. That's silly and misinformed and passes on, with an authoritative voice, misinformation.

Hi,

I did the four-day cruise on the Celebrity Century from Nov. 18-22, 2010. A few days later, I did a seven-day cruise on the Celebrity Summit (Nov. 27-Dec. 4, 2010). Both ships had excellent (and comparable) food and service. I enjoyed having Concierge Class staterooms on both ships. I think the Century is wonderful and I recommend this ship. If you cruise on this ship, don't miss dinner in Murano or the excellent ice cream in the Islands Cafe.

Sorry for the terse response, cruise crazy. I spent four weeks in 2010 in a sky suite and feel like I know of what I speak. Cruisedeckplans actually shows you lots of pics of the S2 sky suites on the penthouse deck with their large verandas.

Also ... As per the dictionary and what I was referring to:

Suite: apartment consisting of a series of connected rooms used as a living unit (as in a hotel)*

The suite in the sky suite is comprised of two nice size connected rooms ... one inside and one outside. The butler services both and adds enormously to the suite experience.

I stayed in Sky suite Rm 1222 on the 2/5/11 5 day western Caribbean. It was exactly as described, no tricks about the size. Service was great, food good, Muranos was well worth it. Aqua spa cafe is good too. lots of fun.

Just got off the Century this past Saturday after 5 day cruise to Roatan and Cozumel. The cruise was great, the ship was great, the S2 Sky suite on deck 10 (penthouse deck I believe) was fantastic. The veranda was huge. I paced it off to be about 155sf.

The only draw back, in my opinion was the lack of entertainment/nightlife options. There isn't much going on after 9pm.

The CC rooms are very nice on the CN. I found the beds to be very firm and comfortable. The furniture in our room was impeccable and the carpet felt new. The storage space was more than enough with the 3 separate closet doors.

The SS had one big closet that was not nearly as nice.

The CC bathrooms were nicer than the older SS bathrooms.

I did a back to back, one in a CC room and one in a S1 on Deck 10. The balcony on the SS was huge compared to the CC room. We did not use the Butler at all since we do not do canopies, afternoon tea or eat meals in the stateroom. He still received his standard gratutity.

Given the choice and having stayed in both on the CN , I would take the CC room over the SS with money not entering the equation.

Yes, it was a bit terse but I have been 'tersed' worse so don't feel bad. :) I do though resent a bit being called 'silly' - 'stupid' perhaps I will own to but at my age (senior) never silly :)

Actually, since u have been in an S2 on the Centurys Penthouse deck then u are the authority.

I merely listed what I have read on both the actual Celebrity website for the Century and on Cruisedeckplans.com (I do not have access to the pictures on that site - only the descriptions)..

If they are wrong and obviously then they are, then Celebrity & Cruisedeckplans (although they get their info from Celebrity so its Celebritys responsibility) shld be held to account for this misinformation and especially since this has existed since 2006 :O!

Even the deck diagrams show small balconies for S2s on the Penthouse deck...

This is extremely misleading and I apologize because I did not intend to mislead (thanks for setting me straight 'Ferem') - just meant to pass on what I myself, doing research, had been lead to believe was accurate..and darn well shld be!!

How else are 'newbies' to do their 'homework before coming to CC for the 'nitty/gritty'?

May I ask please and fully hope u will know if S2 #1068 Penthouse deck has a large balcony or an odd shaped one - I simply will not trust pictures or descriptions anymore?

SHAME on you Celebrity - UPDATE your site please - even the TV sizes/types are wrong!!! :/

Except if you have late dining....that starts at 8:30:D in the dining

room till at least 10:00pm;)

We sailed on the Century on January 31 in a C2 class cabin. The ship, the crew and service, and the food were outstanding. Much more the "Old Celebrity" than our Equinox experiences last year. The Century is a Fine Lady and we like Her.

Hi, cruisecrasy.

Cabin 1068 is in the middle of the Penthouse deck and surrounded by sky suites. It will be a large cabin with a huge veranda. You will love it, I think. The only real difference between the sky suites on Penthouse deck and Sports deck is the overhang. The overhang on the Penthouse deck covers the whole of the veranda since there is a deck above you and the Sports Deck has half an overhang from the walking area above it.

Hello, Jedi,

We were on the same Summit cruise last May. How are your parents? Super nice people!

Just off this same Century sailing, as will as a 5 nighter in November. CC both times. DH and I love this ship. There are not as many dining/entertainment venues as on larger ships, but for 5night IMHO that may not matter.

Service was very good (except for a mediocre stateroom attendent, but that can happen). Mr B and his crew in Murano/Spa Cafe are THE best. Seems like there were more Pool Butlers. Dining room food was very good - none of the issues we had on the Summit in May.

We did not do much nightlife this time - so can't address that. We would sail on the Century again anytime, anywhere.

Note:

I have been sick since onboard Friday at 4am. Stomach issues - enough said :o. Not sure from what/where/when, onboard/off ship, etc.

This was our 6th =X= cruise and the first time for anything like this. The ship seems very clean and there was hand santitizer everywhere.

Waiting for some lab results.

Includiing the dining room.

Maybe I am not understanding you. Including the dining room? I know

many folks think there is not alot of evening activity on Celebrity but I

have never had a problem finding things to do. I have late seating and

when dinner is over I rarely go to a show...I find a lounge to relax in,

find a table in the casino sometimes or just stroll outside. Nothing to

do after 9:00? Like I said, I will be in the dining room eating till at least

10:00:)
