yes - had a look at these yesterday. Unfortunately there is no way that a "World cruise" can be done from Oz next year. We were fortunate last year to be able to pick up one ship going over in November and the return in January.

 

The WC's are all slightly longer than what we did. I like the look of the Aurora leg - Brisbane to Southampton. Basically it calls at the 10 ports we called at, PLUS another 13!!! I started to get all excited at the possibility - but then realised that 10 ports days plus 25 days at sea times $320 per day for the two of us would be better spent on something else. I reckon it would be a GREAT leg for those who did not do the cruise on Oriana to Southampton last year - a total of 23 ports between Bris and UK.

 

The Arcadia leg breaks my Rule Number 3 of Aussie cruising - never sail westwards across the Great Australian Bight. !! and hence doesn't qualify for us :D

Brisbane to Singapore on Aurora looks interesting to me.

 

[The treasurer and I just love to begin or end a cruise in Singapore so we can get a satay and curry "fix".:o:p]

 

Seems to be a good itinerary and there are some reasonable price quotes to be found on the net.

 

Has anyone cruised on Aurora?

 

Looks great - very similar to, but slightly newer than Oriana - and with those same classic lines that make Oriana such a beautiful vessel to cruise on.

You cant go wrong with Aurora Dennis.

Basically the same classic design as Oriana, except it has one of the pools covered with a sliding glass roof.

Lovely ship.

Hi Dennis, David (Kiwi Kruzer) informed me of Oriana's and Aurora's relationship and might be able to tell you more.

 

Apparently they are very similar to be considered almost sisters, the Aurora is newer and slightly larger but this is mainly attributed to the inclusuion of her pool area in her measurements (she has a retractable roof over the pool).

 

Aurora has had quite a number of reliability issues (mainly earlier in her career, everything seems to have straightened out lately).

 

Some of the superstitious souls say she has a curse and attribute her troubles to the fact that the champagne bottle refused to break at her christening and apparently the ribbon holding it broke and the bottle fell unbroken into the water:eek:. I don't believe it myself but it makes a good story.:D

Re Auroras reliability. She even broke down on her maiden voyage. She was supposed to go to Madeira but never made it. We had friends who were booked on one of her World Cruises and they set out from Southampton and only got as far as the Isle of Wight. The whole WC was cancelled and P&O off loaded all the food and gave it to charities around Southampton. She broke down in Auckland on another World Cruise and was here for 6 days while repairs took place.

Perhaps there is something in that bottle of champagne not breaking:eek:

 

However as stated above , all seems to be fixed these days.:D
