Ocean Star Princess caught fire (ex Nordic Prince)

I´ve read some news reports, that off the cost of Huatulco, Mexico the Ocean Star Princess had a fire in the engine room. The 560 passengers where all rescued and transfered ashore. The ship was just underway as Ocean Star Princess since April 8th. This was only the second cruise for the new Mexican cruiseline Ocean Star cruises.

The Ocean Star Princess was built in 1971 for Royal Caribbean as Nordic Prince.

Wow! Not good to have that happen early in the cruise line history...not good ever, but especially for a new line.

Ours too! And, it is still one of our all time favorites - when they were built with all that wood and elegance, you didn't need all the bells and whistles we have nowadays, imho

We live on the westcoast & love to cruise the MR, since some cruselines have left the WC & itineraries have shrunk, we were looking into Ocean Star Cruises....o'well.

Glad the passengers weren't stranded onboard this time like they were after the Carnival Splendor fire!

It was the Ocean Star Pacific.... According to the cruise line the damage was "minimal". We all believe what cruise lines tell us about their emergencies don't we? LOL

 

ALL passengers and crew were evacuated and it will be towed to port for repairs.

Ocean Star CruisesAssociated Press reports a generator fire knocked out power to the ship, forcing the evacuation of nearly 800 passengers and crew Saturday. The fire was quickly controlled Saturday morning and there were no injuries; 522 passengers and 226 crew members were being evacuated by catamaran to the port of Huatulco and would then be flown to Mexico City. The ship is about 6 miles (10 kilometers) offshore and will be towed to Huatulco for repairs. The vessel was headed from Huatulco to Acapulco, resorts on Mexico's southern Pacific coast. Tthe ship has a capacity for 1,050 passengers.
