Only those who are in suites usually have the suite perks, as they have paid for them. If you are lucky enough to be designated a VIP, then you "May" have the Cagney's perk. I was once designated a VIP but unfortunately, still was not able to have breakfast and lunch in Cagney's.

Well, suites are certainly sweet :> but there is a difference between these two words....

 

and to answer your question, technically no, only those who pay for a suite can use suite perks; however, there are those who believe otherwise. I weigh in on the side of no...and you could short circuit all the questions by all six of you staying in the family suite, probably for much less $$ than it is costing you for the mini suite. think about it...

Hi We are a family of six Travling on the Jewel In Aug My parents have a two room family suite and my wife two kids and myself have a conected mini suite.Can the mini still use the perks of the suite such as lunch ant Cagney ect?

 

I definitely wouldn't expect those in the mini-suite to get the full suite benefits since they didn't pay for them.

 

Could it happen..........possibly.

 

You could all eat the breakfast from Cagneys by having the butler deliver it to your parent's cabin.....or you could book all 6 of you in the 2 room family suite.

The consensus on these boards has been that sometimes the concierge allows this, but usually the answer is no. Suite perks are intended for those who book and pay for full suites, mini-suites are not included. The safe thing would be to book a suite for yourselves, or go into the cruise expecting that your parents will get some perks like Cagney;s that you will not. You might be pleasantly surprised, but you certainly can't count on it.

This is exactly why we stuffed all SIX of us in the two bedroom suite--so we could all enjoy the same perks. Erdoran you are quite right about that!! LOL

 

And just so you are all aware--it is not necessarily about the monetary amount. This family would be paying more for the suite and the mini suite!

Okay--Going to explain our circumstance. We took a cruise on the Star a few years back(2008) and paid for ALL cabins---DH and I AB suite (2BD GD's slept in kids bd some nights), sons and kids in two minis, MIL inside (by her choice;)) We had a great Butler and Con. who treated us exceptional. We didn't ask for special privilges. We where all escorted on the ship together via elevator by passing regular embarkation. Once on ship our Butler said everyone could eat breakfast in Cagneys and got all our names & cabin #'s. Our GD's 3 & 4yrs. got treated like little princesses. When we had inroom dinner service, pizza was brought for the girls (we didn't ask for this) They loved the fruit bowl so that was always replenished for them in our suite and their mini suite.

 

I guess what I am saying is it probably up to the Butler and/or Con. as to what suite perks are given out to the non-suite guests. We where all treated like we where in the AB suite. Right down to disembarkation when they escorted us off the ship via back way.

 

Might add my MIL did have use of a wheelchair and her room steward was so generous in helping her and checking on her---taking her down to the library when we were not around.

 

This was an exceptional and wonderful cruise. We tipped very generous as the Butler and Concierge went out of their way to make our whole family feel very special.

 

Butler would also bring enough afternoon canapes/appetizers for all of us.

What you experienced is much more the exception than the rule, and things have been changing in this regard over the last few years. There are always exceptions, but generally they are few and far between, based on anything from one or two minor children to empty sailings. It is at the discretion of the Hotel Director whether to extend privileges to non-suite guests, and he will often send a general directive to the concierge for each individual sailing as to whether any guests will be allowed. For the OP, who is asking if two paid suite passengers can bring four guests into Cagney's for the length of the cruise, I would guess the answer would be a firm no.

It really depends on how the reservation was made..If the connected suite and the mini suite were booked under the same reservation then the suite perks will be extended to all the occupants..

 

If the reservations were made separately then you will be at the mercy of the HD...

Not necessarily true Rich, I have had it go both ways when my (minor) children were in a connected room on one family reservation. It seems much more dependent on how full the sailing is - sometimes the HD preapproves the whole thing before you even arrive at the port, sometimes you have to ask and are declined.

Thats interesting since I was recently told on 2 separate occasions that there would not be a problem with the perks since it was basically considered the same cabin..It sounds like NCL is consistently inconsistant..:rolleyes:

That's the most TRUE answer I have seen all day! :D. The inconsistant consistency is amazing... The way I see it, if someone posts that "they" got a certain privilege, then there will be two or more who complain to NCL that they didn't. As with everything, keep your expectations low, and if anything extra is extended, you will be thrilled! I myself am not comfortable asking for exceptions, but some people have no problem with it - just so long as they don't expect it...

That is so true Robin. That is why in the end we decided to put us all in the suite--that way there could be no issue with anything. I simply was not willing to leave it up to circumstances that I could not control. I didn't want to be asking for favors or exceptions, and I certainly didn't want to be in a place of being denied.

 

This is a topic that just gets beat to death here. It totally is up to the staff of NCL--therefore you can't expect it to work out your way just because you want it to. And it is costing a lot you a lot of money. So pay less--and put everyone in the suite!! LOL If you think about it --it is so illogical. Of course if the rooms are adjoined and a group is paying for the suite and the balcony--then they are paying a lot more than four people in the suite.

 

Anyway--put everyone in the suite--and end the conflict.

I guess we where lucky then as we had seven adults and two children and they treated us like everyone was in our AB suite. Maybe it was because it was considered one reservation and was in Jan., but the suites where full--not sure about the rest of the cabins. Was a wonderful cruise and will be doing it again in 2013.

I'm curious..did you ask NCL about the perks for everyone before you booked or did you assume you would you have to ask for a "favor".

 

I asked about a connecting OS and a Balcony or a Family AB and a connecting AF mini . I was told by more than one NCL employee that all the occupants would have the same suite perks.

 

I didn't expect or want any favors, I just wanted to know the perks would be handled before I booked.

At the risk of starting a flame war, how fair is it that one group might pay for multiple suites so that everyone can share the CY and other perks, while a different group pays for one suite and multiple non-suites and get the same thing for much less $$$$$$? Seems the ones who paid for suites got ripped off?

You are absolutely correct. There are other factors in the granting of perks besides having adjoining cabins under the same booking. Cruise history has a little do with things and past friendships are also a huge factor.

 

No flames are really necessary if people would sit back and think about their own situation and how it fits into the discussion.

 

The Hotel Director has a lot of leeway in how things are run aboard their ship as long as a profit is not squandered in the process.

Your cost analysis is not necessarily true...I know from personal experience that booking 8 people in a GV is less expensive than booking 7 in a GV and putting one in an inside cabin...
