Oasis questions... so excited!!

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have some questions for me (many time cruiser) and the BF (first time)...

1) I booked a suite guaranty.. there was just 1 JS available and we did end up getting it.. no biggie as it was $400 cheaper than booking a JS direct. There are 16 CL suites open and 3 Owners Suites.. I am platinum.. what are the odds of getting upgraded? I am happy with a JS.. just curious as this is a very special cruise (celebrate my divorce that took 22 months!!)

2) Where can he smoke? We will have a balcony so I know thats okay to smoke on

3) The BF wants to know any dos and donts of cruising.. I have given him all my advice but I guess it wasnt enough... I think mostly because I havent been on Oasis yet

4) When I booked I got dinner for 2 at a speciality restaurant free (and 2 free spa treatments)... my TA whom I adore recommended Chops

5) I already pre-booked entertainment and some excursions (doing Western route)

6) Can we get to the front of the ship like on Liberty?

7) Anything NOT to miss out doing? This is our first real vacation just us and my BF has something very special planned.. my only hint is that it has to be done ON our cruise and a night that we are dressed formally

8) Rum runners okay? I had success on Liberty inside shoes...

Anything else you guys recommend for someone going on his first cruise? As you can guess, I want to get him hooked!! Oasis and a suite :)

Thanks!!

This is basically unpredictable.

Yes, can smoke on the balcony. And on 1 side of the pool deck, casino, most bars...

3) The BF wants to know any dos and donts of cruising.. I have given him all my advice but I guess it wasnt enough... I think mostly because I havent been on Oasis yet

As long as it's legal, do whatever you want!

4) When I booked I got dinner for 2 at a speciality restaurant free (and 2 free spa treatments)... my TA whom I adore recommended Chops

Good recommendation. It's a regular steakhouse and it's pretty good... however, you are on an Oasis class ship and there are many, many other dining venues to choose from, while other ships are fairly minimal in comparison (but ALL include chops). Something to consider....

5) I already pre-booked entertainment and some excursions (doing Western route)

6) Can we get to the front of the ship like on Liberty?

I've havn't sailed this class yet but I do not believe you can.

7) Anything NOT to miss out doing? This is our first real vacation just us and my BF has something very special planned.. my only hint is that it has to be done ON our cruise and a night that we are dressed formally

Oh boy....

Just enjoy what's all around you.

8) Rum runners okay? I had success on Liberty inside shoes...

Good luck!

When I took my wife on our first cruise while we were dating it didn't take me "doing anything" to hook her. I know only 1 person who didn't like their first cruise... shouldnt' be hard!

Thanks!!

Hope that helps... enjoy your vacation!

.....for our cruise in September. I am not holding my breath for an upgrade since I already was assigned a room.

I was hoping for a bit better since we are diamond but it is a great JS on the 'hump' & was cheaper than if I had booked the JS to begin with.

I also got free dining & spa but have now learned that I cannot book those in advance. I have to wait until I am on the ship which will not only be a hassle....most times will probably be prebooked.

Of couse rum runners are ok.....I think there is a guarantee on their website :O)

We usually do ships of about 2,000 people but really wanted to experience the Oasis.

I am sure there will be more than enough to do just trying to see everything.

Stags is correct that there seems to be no rhyme or reason. I wouldn't hold my breath, though, if I were you.

2) Where can he smoke? We will have a balcony so I know thats okay to smoke on

Follow Stag's advice. ;)

3) The BF wants to know any dos and donts of cruising.. I have given him all my advice but I guess it wasnt enough... I think mostly because I havent been on Oasis yet

Don't get upset when you get lost. Use the touchscreens in the elevator lobbies. Explore all the different neighborhoods. Learn to love the stairs. :D Try the Wipeout Café for some real "shore" (as we say up here) or "beach/boardwalk" food. Don't miss the dance party (-ies) on the Royal Promenade. Get yourself to the Diamond Lounge (I am assuming that you are D from your description of "many time cruiser") early and watch from there. If not D, get to the Schooner Bar. Or stay on Deck 5 and get crushed. :D

4) When I booked I got dinner for 2 at a speciality restaurant free (and 2 free spa treatments)... my TA whom I adore recommended Chops

You know that you can't book until you are onboard for these. Go look at the menus - they are posted outside the restaurant. Then choose.

5) I already pre-booked entertainment and some excursions (doing Western route)

Did you book all six entertainments? They are all worth seeing.

6) Can we get to the front of the ship like on Liberty? No, but if you are D, you will receive an invitation in your cabin, on your interactive TV, for a special event on this otherwise-offlimits area. So, be sure to check your TV often for messages. The TV will also have your reservations there, so you can see your schedule.

7) Anything NOT to miss out doing? This is our first real vacation just us and my BF has something very special planned.. my only hint is that it has to be done ON our cruise and a night that we are dressed formally

Shows. Carousel. Quest. (so much fun to take a newbie! ;)) Repeaters' party. Captain's Q & A.

8) Rum runners okay? I had success on Liberty inside shoes... Depends on timing of your cruise. If you can already make reservations, it's obviously not a spring break cruise. You may be able to get RR's on. Or maybe not. Just accept your walk of shame with good grace, if you are called down to claim your waylaid suitcase.

Anything else you guys recommend for someone going on his first cruise? As you can guess, I want to get him hooked!! Oasis and a suite :)

Thanks!!

Good job on the suite!

Come back and show us pictures............and tell us what the big surprise was!

Thanks everyone so far... just platinum.. not diamon yet.. this cruise will make me Emerald. I did book all the entertainment and my TA told me I cant do the spa or speciality til onboard because I get vouchers (already printed). Good to know about the helipad because I would have tried to get out there like on Liberty! I plan to do the dance parties as BF already said we are definitely spending time dancing :) I just want to have a great time.. and cruising, I always do. As for keeping the JS.. its all good.. if I get upgraded, awesome.. if not, its still a JS at $400 less!
