Platinum Laundry Question

Recommended Posts

This will be my 10th cruise with Carnival -- just 12 days to go! The Carnival website says free wash and fold laundry service for Platinum members -- is that just once or as many times as I need?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Wow, this is my 1000 post!

I've used it once during each of my platinum cruises, usually on the 5th day of a 7 night cruise. But then I only have one carry on bag, so how many T's and briefs would be in it to start?

Hubby has this great plan that we can each get on the plane with a carry on....he has kinda issued a challenge to me. Well, he doesn't know I get free laundry so I'll pack light and just wash clothes as I need them. He should know better than to try to out-smart me ;)

I looked on line and watched a video using the bundle method of packing for a week trip to Hawaii (as we were flying standby only took a carry-on) and I was really surprised on how much I was able to pack. In fact, on our return my sister had extra to pack and couldn't fit it all; so, I bundle packed her suitcase and it all fit easily. Using this methoc though, it would be hard to get something out without unpacking everything. I'm thinking about taking a carry-on on our next cruise; even though we drive to port (I'm always so anxious until my luggage arrives - never have had my luggage misplaced, but I know it it possible and on our cruise last year we didn't get my piece of luggage until late that evening and I was stressed until it arrived).

OK, I saw this topic title and just had to post this. We were on the Splendor May 3rd 2009 for the first week of the infamous "Swine Flu" crisis. Due to the flu, the day before the cruise Carnival called and informed us we were no longer headed to Mexico, we were going to Canada instead . We went and had the best cruise we have ever been on; luckily we were still at home when the call came and were able to re-pack to winter clothes, unlike some others on the cruise who froze their tushies off in shorts and tank tops :(. Carnival gave people an opportunity to reschedule their cruise if they wanted to a later date, so the ship sailed about half empty. During the cruise we were waiting in the casino for our turn at the Blackjack tournament and I struck up a conversation with a very tipsy lady sitting next to me. I asked how she was doing at Blackjack, if she was a big gambler, just making small talk. She told me she usually did not play much, but one of the perks of her Platinum status was free entry into the tournament. I did not know this and asked her what some of the other Platinum perks were. She told me about some, but then said the best perk was the free laundry. She had been on dozen of Carnival cruises as she lived about 5 minutes away from the port in Long Beach. Then she tells me she had booked this cruise only the day before! Carnival had called her and offered the cruise for $99 for the week because they were trying to fill cabins! She said she couldn't afford to stay home for that price. And besides, she said, since she lived so close, she just packed up all her laundry and brought it on board for the crew to do. ALL of her laundry. She said she took down her drapes, packed up the dog beds, cleaned out her linen closet, all her winter clothes that were needing to go into summer storage, bedspreads, pillows, tableclothes, EVERYTHING! She brought it all on the ship in 13 Hefty bags and just turned it over to the crew to fluff and fold. I was truly speechless. She then offered to have my laundry done if there was anything I needed washed, which I politely declined . I didn't know whether to laugh or be appalled, so I was a little of both. I still think about the gall it would take to hand over all those bags to the check-in person. I am not that bold, I guess.

And the trick is to fit all that into the little 24" paper bag that they give you......

If there are a lot of Platinum cruisers, then they will request or limit the free laundry to 1 bag for the cruise.

OP - Do not give them anything that might shrink or will bleed. Also don't give them your nice clothes.

I take a picture of the clothes I have laundered. There have been reports of people not getting some of their clothes. After I get my laundry back, I delete the picture.

On the bag, write Platinum and don't forget to fill out the form.
