OBC question

Recommended Posts

if you set your sea pass account as a cash account to start with you will not be charged the 3% in the casino. The casino staff check your name against a list, just remind them politely you are a cash account and they won't charge you:)

You will get a letter in your cabin telling you what the OBC can be used for and it clearly states it can be used in the casino. If you should use all your OBC go to Guest services and change the sea pass account to credit card or pay the balance in cash.

We get OBC of varying amounts for all our cruises and this has never been a problem for us , so far;)

Hi Heather - hope all is well with you and John :)

That's really good advice and something we didn't know but will remember for the future. I would expect an expert cruiser like yourself to know the best way :D

Hi. Is the letter about obc automatic. I ask because we had just 100 usd on our last trip- didn't get a letter but it was credited off bill.

On this trip we have either 800 or 1000 for a 7 night med. It has been almost impossible to get an invoice showing the credit. I still only have one of the 2 rooms with the right invoice at the moment. This is after 2 calls and 4 emails. Now its come it is showing 100 usd more than i expected (so thats why not sure if its 800 or 1000). The 2nd room is complicated as it had cruise certs applied after final payment as well.

So can I expect a summary of obc in the room? I was planning on going to guest relations 1st thing to check.

We are shareholders and get variable amounts of OBC depending on the length of the cruise so we know what amounts we are looking for when checking the seapass account on the interactive TV.

We ALWAYS print off our e.mail confirming any OBC to take with us to the ship.

It is usually posted to our seapass account after a couple of days. You are allowed to run up a debt of 500$ before Guest services start chasing you to put any cash credit on the account but I would think by the time you run up a bill of that amount your OBC should already be in place.

For our last few cruises , perhaps after 3 or 4 days, we have received a letter in the cabin reminding us what it can be used for, wish I had kept a letter now, I don't remember it showing a breakdown of OBC and where it came from so can't help you there. All I can say is we had two separate amounts on our last cruise (6th July) and they showed as two individual credit vouchers on the seapass account but they did come from the same dept.

none of that probably helps your situation other than make sure you take with you any documentary evidence of OBC and the phone numbers of those responsible with providing it.

hi Anne , yes we are fine, looking forward to our next cruise on Indie 28th September. I know you are on Mariner with Kimberley, you'll have fun together:).

We always set up our account as cash now, makes you keep a keener eye on the spending as well:D;).

If your TA is familiar with booking consecutive cruises for their clients, then they should have done that when you initially booked. Just call and ask, if they haven't done it to date, all they need to do is call RCI and speak to some one at the b2b desk.

I will warn you though, that once your first b2b is completed.........a single cruise will not be good enough any more!:D

Truer words were never spoken!!!!:D

In our experiences, we've never seen a letter regarding our OBC. We check our account via the TV and so far, when it shows up in a day or two, it's always been accurate. If we have any left at the end of our cruise, it has been credited to our charge card.

Any left over obc at the end of the cruise will be refunded to you in cash on the last night, just go to the desk. We have done it twice.
PROBABLY true. Be sure of what type of OBC you have. Most OBC is refundable and will be returned to you on the last night of the cruise, but SOME -- for example, WOW sale OBC, is non-refundable, and the rule is "use it or lose it".

You don't have to wait until the last day or so of the cruise. I went to guest relations the 3rd day of our cruise and got all of the refundable OBC in cash. That way I could have all my on board spending charged to my RCI credit card and get the double points. It was no problem at and it allows you to know exactly how much non-refundable OBC is available to you, and you don't have to pay the 3% fee in the casino.

Good luck!

I suggest that on day 1 or 2 go to guest relation and see how much refundable OBC you have and ask for the cash.

I did this with no problem.

It really depends on the ship as to when they will refund your unused OBC that is refundable. There is no consistency among RCI ships and what Guest Relations does on one ship, doesn't necessarily mean that Guest Relations on another ship will follow suit.

Does anyone know if OBC from the RCI Visa is refundable? We are sailing on the Allure in November and my parents will have $100 in credit from booking on a previous cruise, and $200 from credit card rewards points. I am wondering how much of that $300 would be refundable in cash at guest relations.

When doing a b2b since each cruise has its own booking number each has it's own Sea Pass Account. When the first cruise has ended, that account will be closed and a new account started. I would apply points to each cruise and then once on board sign up for the pre-paid gratuities.

You only need to print out your SetSail Pass for the first cruise because if your cruises are linked with the b2b desk, everything is automatically transferred from cruise one to cruise two.

cruisenfever, each b2b cruise has its own booking #, thus separate cruises. you must totally clear out each cruise before the next leg of the b2b starts, nothing will auto transfer over. each booking on a b2b must be totally cleared before the 2nd leg starts.

you are correct about each cruise is separate. but you also said that the left over will automatic transfer. nothing will auto transfer. each cruise closes out at the end of its sailing.

You misunderstood that paragraph which had to do with the SetSail Pass. What I said was.....

"You only need to print out your SetSail Pass for the first cruise because if your cruises are linked with the b2b desk, everything is automatically transferred from cruise one to cruise two".

I never said that OBC was transferred from one cruise to the other. Having done numerous consecutive cruises, we know the procedure.:) Your OBC is not connected to your SetSail Pass, but it is connected to your SeaPass Account.

We have in the past bought OBC (on Princess and NCL) so that we don't have to travel with as much cash (we don't do ATM's), we'd like to do this on our upcoming trip....I just called RCL and they put me on hold to find out if you're able to take the OBC money out once we board...she said any money removed would incure a 3% charge whether it's at the front desk or casino....unfortunately she didn't seem that confident in her answer....I usually will take the info off of this site over the helpful people at RCL;)....so, can anyone assure me that if I send some $$ over to Voyager and Brilliance that I'll be able to remove it when we get on board (and not charged a fee)??

Thank you so much!!!

As long as the money is not being generated by C&A then yes, any money that you put towards OBC is completely refundable to you with no 3% service charge.
Thank you for the reply....now the big question is, will they insist on returning it to my credit card that I purchased it on or will the give cash??? Also, I can't even seem to find on the website where you can purchase OBC!???
Last I heard, you could not purchase OBC on the website, you had to call Royal directly.
Maybe someone can answer this question for me. I am doing a B2B in October and plan to use some of my credit card points for OBC. If I apply the points to the first cruise will any unused credits be transferred to the second leg of the B2B or should I apply some to the first half and some to the second half?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

May I ask how it works with the CC points?

New stupid question: If it is possible to purchase OBC prior to the cruise, can I use it on what I like onboard? SPA, drinks, shopping?
Have never had a OBC and it sound nice to have be able to prepay a bit in advance in order to lower the sum I have to pay before I leave....:D

The OBC can be used for everything you purchase on board the ship. Everything you mentioned is included plus gratuities, excursions, bingo, etc. Remember though that OBC only credits purchases you make after you board the ship. If you prepay gratuities or schedule excursions on the website before the cruise, these are paid immediately from your credit card.

If you do not want it applied to your credit card as a credit, then go to Guest Relations the night before debarkation and ask for the unused OBC back in cash to clear your SeaPass Account.
