Just off the Dream! Any Questions?

Recommended Posts

DH and I are looking at a couple of cruises on the Dream or maybe the Breeze, which I expect is the same layout. We have not been convinced about the Cove Balconies because we are concerned that when you look up, you will see the bottom of a life raft. DH loves astronomy and loves to sit on a balcony and look at the sky at night and the water during the day. We have read comments about the lack of privacy with regular balconies on the Dream due to the extended promenade deck and we are not sure just how high up we would have to go to avoid this issue and have the usual privacy we have had on the Liberty, etc. We aren't really aft balcony lovers. Any input?

Yes, unfortunately we were not able to see right above us because of the life boats. And I would agree about the other balconies because of the promenade deck. How High? probably someone that has been on those decks can answer. But when I was in the whirlpool on the lanai you could see up to about deck 8.

I have another question about the Money Bar... do they rent umbrellas or anything for shade? I don't see that listed on the amenities or in the packages.

They have a few umbrellas around and are free along with the loungers and tables.

My Fun Group was also on this sailing. I agree with Tronto the lines were not long except for the Pasta Bar & the Mongolian grill. For breakfast I ate in the dining room all but the last day at sea. A couple of people in my group had cove balconies and loved them!!! On the other hand I had balcony cabin 6387 and hated it!!!!!! Because I cruise with a group we let Carnival select our cabins, imagine my horror the first morning of the cruise in my p.j.s I walk out on the balcony and see a hot tub full of people directly in front of me staring at me!!!! How embarrassing!!!

But I had a ball on the cruise!! The shows were great, the couple that sings in the Attrim is fantastic !!! Do yourself a favor and stay out of the casino, the machines are soooooooo tight, I didn't see anyone hit more than a few dollars.

In Coz we went to Paradise Beach and loved it, in Rotan rode the chair lift and went to the beach at the port, stayed on the ship in Belize and in Costa Maya some of my group went to a beach about 5 mins. from port paid $25 for all you could eat and drink, they had a great time.

I can't wait for my group cruise next year!!!!

Was there a past guest party? Are they giving pins out for past quests? What nights are the formal dining nights? What time did you get to the terminal and then on the boat? What was the best thing you ate? We booked a cove balcony also. Looking forward to it.

Yes there was a past guest on the 2nd formal night. They did not give anything out, but they had free cocktails. Formal nights are the 1st sea day and the costa maya day. We got to the terminal around 1015am and on the boat at 1115am. We were zone 5 and they called zone 1 at about 1050am. Best thing I ate.....wow, ummm..... They had this bacon mac and cheese that was really good on the last night. Also the lasagna was good. Most of what we ate was good. The meat was a little dry in most cases. You will love the cove balcony

toronto, glad you had a good time.

i guess i lucked out with deck 9 as i had to make an effort look over the railing to see the jacuzzi. didn't hear any noise.

mongolian bbq was a long wait on sea days. on one occasion it took over 30 minutes. preferred the burrito bar.

cozumel - did amazing race with ship

roatan - cab to south shore zip line and beach

belize - cave tubing and ziplining thanks to cc for information

costa maya - ruins and private beach (besides my family, there was only one other couple) thanks to cc for information

disembarkation went rather quickly. i decided to pay the $20 for the ship to deliver my bags to the airport and my final destination. i just walked off, rented a car (much cheaper) and was at the airport in 45 minutes.

The bathroom pics I keep seeing on Dream are freaking me out... is the shower area REALLY as small as it seems??:eek:

I remember the showers on inspiration a LONG time ago were small, but they weren't practically inside the toilet bowl. They were their own contained space.

Did they have the pasta bar and mongolian grill open on the first day for lunch? Also - where is the Burrito Bar? We sail on her in November! Can't wait!

BTW - how was the food in the MDR ;) with all the talk of the new menu (which doesn't bother me at all) what did you think?

Yes, the showers are that small. I put them as being cozy.

Pasta bar and Mongolian were both open on embarkation day. Pasta bar was completely empty when we were there on embarkation day at lunch time, so that would be the best time to go or during a port day. The Mongolian grill always had a line up even on port days I had to wait about 10-15 min, sea days, forget it. Pasta bar was great, Mongolian grill was OK. Burrito bar was at the gathering aft, where the omelet station is.

MDR food was really good, i'm not sure if we had the new menus or not, but we had the bacon Mac and Cheese which from what I hear is part of the new menus??? if someone can please correct me if I'm wrong.

was on Dream 7/23 adjoining balconies 9216 & 9220. Very quite rooms & deck 5 was not an issue as it narrowed below me.. PS -deck 9 has a fwd door leading out to front of ship & when i really wanted to take in the views i went out there. Anyway, pic1 reflects looking aft and pic2 is looking straight down from 9216.

Nice set of postings Toronto. Glad you had a great time. Thanks for doing the review and the pictures.

For the poster freaking on the shower stall size, there is an option. If you have a spa cabin or purchase a weekly spa pass, you can use the spa showers, very roomy. Otherwise, the men and women's showers across fromthe gym are fairly large too. And both have facilitiies for handicapped persons if needed.

FYI- our trip on 2.4.12 just had a price reduced, saved $100. May be worth looking into.

Thanks for your insight on the Dream. Glad to hear all sounds very good. Also glad the "smell" issue was small non-issue.

What movies were shown in the room and on the Seaside Theatre? I'll be on the Triumph Sept 1 so I know it might be a little different but it will give me an idea of what.

In the cabins the whole cruise every night were: You again, Alpha & Omega, and Horton hears a who.

Seaside: Tangled, Mega Mind, Secretariat, Tron, Scooby Doo, Little Fockers, Just go with it, Rango, The Green Hornet, Gnomeo & Juliet.

Hi!

What can you tell me about the band Cooper's Run at Ocean Plaza Lounge?

I know they do country....

Did they play any Rock/70's-80's or disco?

Thanks,

Mike

Country band in ocean plaza they have a sign next to guitarist as Michael and Ashley. They have guitarist, female vocalist, drums, and keyboard player playing both bass and rhymth. The female vocalist went MIA at mid cruise and left with only 3 members. They play stuff like Keith Urban, Eagles, Zack Brown, etc.. A few times the Carnival band actually playing there with rock/70-80 disco music. Then there is a latin band playing occasionally.

What shows were there

It been a few days but here is what i recall not necessarily in correct order:

Welcome abroad

8 minutes ???

Dancing in the Streets

Another dancing show theme with working class people

Female impressionist of famous people like Cher, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, etc...

One night there is no show because of everything going on

Legend show with carnival cruiser participation

Toronto Male....Just a quick question about the Dream and the (2) Elegant/Formal nights. Which nights are scheduled and is the menu different in the MD on both nights. We want to make a reservation for the Steak House ahead of time on one of the Elegant/Formal nights and better menu.

Since you stated you flew into Orlando a day earlier could you tell me a little about your transportation(ie. car rental)? How did you return the car?

How did you orchestrate that? What hotel did you stay? Where did you stay? Port Carnaveral(sp?) or Orlando?

Basically, I am asking about your transportation and hotel accommodation details! :D

Elegant nights were on the 1st sea day and on the Costa Maya port day. Yes the menus were different. Personally I enjoyed the menu from the 1st elegant night better, but that's because I like Lobster.

We arrived on Friday and stayed at the Comfort Suites Orlando Airport in Orlando, it was about 5 minutes from the airport. We did rent a car until Saturday from Thrifty and dropped it off at the Port Canaveral location it was about $45, there was a shuttle that took us from the thrifty location to the port. When we returned, we had a flight that did not leave until 530pm so we rented a car from Budget near the port and returned it to the airport, the cost for that was about $75, budget also had a shuttle from the port.

One thing I forgot to mention was the Punch liner Comedy. There were lots of previous posts of there not being enough seating because ppl from earlier shows would just stay there and take up the room.

On this cruise, once a show was over, they made everyone leave the Burgundy lounge and line up for the next show. I assume that this is a new policy, and it is a good idea. We saw about 15 out of the 20 shows and never had problems finding a seat.

BTW, the punch liner was great, we loved it.
