That is a good question (which means I don't have the answer). Perhaps you can contact them.

This site tells you how to contact the navy: http://www.navy.forces.gc.ca/cms/0/0_eng.asp

There is also a museum: http://psphalifax.ca/marcommuseum/contact.html

You can get as close as new security laws allow to the ships by taking the Harbour Hopper tour.

Is there any way to tour the naval base in Halifax?

Asked my husband who is recently retired from the Navy and he says contact Public Affairs http://www.navy.forces.gc.ca/cms/9/9_eng.asp. They do arrange tours for school groups and the like, but they don't have a regular tour. Nt sure they'd do it for an individual but it never hurts to ask.

And like Maryanne says you get better views of the ships if you take a harbour tour.

We had our lobster lunch on the patio of a restaurant along the boardwalk and the Navy was doing exercises of some sort. We had a great view of helicopters, frigates, navy vessels in waters just in front of us. Was really fun watching.

Since 911 the base is a secured area and highly unlikly for an individual get in unless you knew someone in high places

I attempted to take my retired brother (USN) there a few years ago and was refused
