JohninDC Posted August 27, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2011 While Melborne is the closest, most sailing from PC fly in/out of Orlando (MCO), which is about 45-55 minutes away. Good luck! :)
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 27, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2011 The reality is that most of the flights would be out of Orlando International Airport. Keith
SSmith Posted August 27, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2011 I think most people fly in Orlando or Sanford airports. Orlando airport is a little closer to the port and transportation from MCO is a little cheaper then from Sanford. Plus you can stay in Orlando before or after cruise...at least for a day...or two :)
Rare Oviedo32765 Posted August 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2011 According to Google maps, Port Canaveral is: 1.) 45 miles (46 minutes) to Orlando International Airport. 2.) 33 miles (43 minutes) to Melbourne International Airport. 3.) 59 miles (1 hour 9 minutes) to Sanford International Airport. 4.) 72 miles (1 hour 12 minutes) to Daytona International Airport. Orlando International Airport (MCO) will have a larger selection of airlines. The other airports have limited air service, but you may want to research what's available to them from your area. I fly in and out of MCO all the time and can tell you it is a very busy airport. It's a hit or miss as far as the length of the check-in and security lines. Saturday and Sunday is tourist shift change days (lots of tourists heading home) and Monday and Friday is busy with business travelers. MCO, although very busy, has its act together when it comes to moving people thru it, but even so, it can become jammed at times. I always arrive at the airport about 1 hour 30 minutes prior to departure time and have never missed a flight (knock on wood). I recommend online flight check in and curb-side baggage check in at the airport. I have not used the other airports and cannot comment about them. Maybe someone on CC has used these airports and can report on their experience.
Rare Oviedo32765 Posted August 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2011 Update: I talked with a coworker today who flew out of Melbourne last week. He chose Melbourne because it was about 1/2 the cost of flying out of Orlando. He said the Melbourne airport was very nice - fairly new and very clean. It had all the major car rental agencies and even had an arcade. He said security was easy to get thru because the airport wasn't crowded. He said he would fly out of Melbourne again.
