CruisegirlCA Posted August 29, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2011 We're planning to pack very lightly for a 4 day sailing on the Monarch. I was wondering if we can just take our own luggage aboard, we don't want to wait for our bags to arrive. Is this OK? or is it frowned upon? Provided your luggage is able to fit through the Ship's scanner when you board. The scanner is the same size as used at the airports. So if your bags are larger than 22" than you'll probably have a problem.

Rare silentbob007 Posted August 29, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2011 They are a little larger, but won't take a full-sized suitcase (ie, 26-29 inch cases at least).
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted August 30, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2011 Please bear in mind that your room won't be ready before 1pm so you will need to keep your bags with you after boarding. This can be a bit tricky for lunch in Windjammer but certainly doable.
kc320 Posted August 30, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 30, 2011 I was just on Monarch last week & did this very thing! One tip..if you do board early & head to the Windjammer go all the way forward into the Jade Area...there are hardly any people up that far when you first board & makes finding a table much easier... The scanner at the port my be larger but you still have to go through the scanner on board ship when embarking. All the ones on board ship I've ever gone through are the same as at the airport. bilyclub Posted August 30, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 30, 2011 There is no additional scanner once you clear security in the building except in San Juan.
BeeMarie Posted August 30, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 30, 2011 I just did this last week. Aside from having your bags with you in the Windjammer during lunch, it wasn't a problem. My largest bag was mid-sized. Too big for the overhead.
