Ever take a cruise and get off only once or never?

On my very first cruise. It was on the Fantasy in Aug of 08. The ports were Progresso and Cozumel. Didn't want to spend the time riding the bus for the ruins excursion in Progresso. This was our first cruise and did it mainly for the ship experience not the ports. My husband and two sons got off but stayed around the port area. I stayed on the ship and did laundry. They hated Progresso and weren't gone long. I'm glad I stayed on the ship.

Has anyone ever taken a cruise and never gotten off the ship or only gotten off at a new port? We are doing just that next week and looking forward to it.

I have trouble walking so I usually just stay on board. As others have said - I just like the cruise experience.

Took a 7 day in early August. NO to Key West to Cozumel to Progreso.

Never got off until we got back to NO.

If I travel for the destination I take the motorhome. Not really much to see or do in ports since you're only there for a few hours.

I live in Vancouver which is a port city and when I was 16 we did a Vancouver to Victoria, to Seattle back to Vancouver cruise. We were already very familiar with the ports because they are basically our backyard so we stayed on the boat to experience the ship itself.

Now I'm about to do my first "grown up" cruise and we chose to do it so we could see the ports, it was a great way to see snapshots of all these places we wanted to see in one vacation. When I was backpacking in Australia we usually only ever spent a couple days in each city we visited sometimes just over night so it doesn't bother me that we're only there for a day; we see what we want to see and then move on to something else we want to see.

We are too. My husband and I are both looking forward to it. We just want to relax on the balcony, read and listen to music. Sounds very good to me!:D

Time has changed our priorities with cruising. At first, I went for the "I gotta see and do everything" syndrome.

Now, if we haven't been in a port, we go touring. If it's a repeat visit, we just look for a beach to relax on.

Also, we are now looking for itineraries with less stops.

Living where I do, and having now done the Eastern Caribbean to death

(-what Carnival refers to as "Southern" Caribbean)

we still get off the ship sometime in the morning after the initial crowds

to mosey around the town and buy a few things -even in rundown St.Johns ANTIGUA

My wife heads back to the ship, with her new towels!

Usually back on board in an hour or two. If I do a tour it'll be a half-day tour.

It's nice to get back on board before the madding crowd..find the ship much to yourself!

We also enjoy a port day spent on the ship. In fact, I've never seen more of Costa Rica then a half hour walk to the shopping tent and back, but the first time I did that was also the very first time I've been completely alone on the pool deck. What a great way to spend an afternoon.

I agree with the other poster who stays on the ship when in Nassau.

We cruise for the "SHIP" and almost never leave the ship in any port in the Caribbean. Yep, we've done all the ports before, and will occasionally leave, just to stretch our legs, but the ship is the destination for us. We returned from our Western Itinerary cruise yesterday. Four ports, and we got off the ship once, in Cozumel. We walked down the pier to the end,,,,turned around,,,,and walked back. Other than that we stayed aboard. ;) Yep, it was hotter than Hades too!

On my first cruise, I got off in Jamaica, and wasn't prepared for the aggressive assault of the sellers.....people in my face, tugging my arm, pushing/pulling me toward their booth. Being my mother's daughter :) I didn't want to be rude, until I'd finally had enough, and said, very low and very firm...."Get out of my face!" I went back to the ship, and didn't get off at our next stop.... (Grand Cayman....I've since returned) thinking every port would be that way!

I've said it before but here it is again..

Going Ashore is hot sweaty work compared to staying on board an air-conditioned ship!

That's why I love my half-day tours, preferably in an air-conditioned vehicle. ;)

My mother and I cruised on the Norwegian Crown in 1996 I think it was. We absolutely loved the ship. We had a stateroom with a huge bay window with blinds that closed with a remote. (I'm easily entertained). This was in the day before ships had a large number of balconies. We had cruised many times so the ports were a repeat and my mom had mobility issues. I can't even remember what ports it went to but we never got off the ship. The casino was the smallest I'd ever seen but we kept winning. When we got back to Miami we couldn't believe we hadn't been off of the ship in a week. We had the most perfect trip and I'll always remember that time, especially on a day of memories and reflection as 9/11 always is for me.
