Sneaking booze on on board

I am going to try. I will be packing a case of champagne in amongst my bags. (Thankfully I am local, so no air involved.)

My question is: Once onboard, how big is the fridge? Will it fit a bottle or two? Is it a problem getting room service or your steward to keep a daily supply of champagne glasses and a champagne bucket in your cabin? (This is easy on Princess, but I've never tried on Carnival. I'll be on the Pride.

Thanks

Can you provide me with some good ideason how to sneak alcohol on board. I will be sailing on the Miracle- Are some ships harder than others to get on board?:p

How much do you plan to "sneak" on board? If it is just a bottle or two, I would suggest wrapping them in bubble wrap, then a small plastic bag and putting them in your checked luggage not your carry on. If you want to bring wine or champagne on board, Carnival will let you bring a "reasonable" amount. My husband and I both had 3 bottles of wine and/or champagne in each of our carryons this past January when we boarded the Spirit and had no problem.

Just put it in with your checked luggage and wrap it in clothes to keep it from breaking or buy plastic bottles if available. We had a group of about 30 last November, everyone had alcohol and none was confiscated.

You'll be surprised how much you have left over,It's so much easier for the waiter to bring you a drink rather than walk all the back to your room to fix another one.

We didn't sneak or try to disguise our alcohol. Carnival allows you to bring wine/champagne on board, so we put two bottles of wine in our carry-on. They were wrapped in beach towels so that they wouldn't break. Not a problem with security. They could see the bottles through the x-ray machine.

We carried two bottles of liquor in our checked luggage. The Grey Goose came in a tin can, so we just left it in that. Then our other liquor was in a plastic bottle. You can purchase some liquor in plastic bottles for traveling. We also had our mixers packed in our checked luggage since they fit in there.

As far as a fridge fitting the alcohol, probably not. We somehow made one of the wine bottles fit. Our other wine was kept on ice by the cabin steward. They don't care. They'll even provide you with a wine opener should you need one. We didn't this time because we brought our own in our carry-on. No problem with that either.

Hmmm.... Do you think they'd have a problem if I carried on a case of champagne? There are going to be four of us between a balcony cabin & a suite. To us gals, that is a "reasonable amount". :D

I have done it numerous times on Princess with no problem... just have never tried it on Carnival.

thoughts? experiences?

thanks!

Never had a problem... have packed MUCHO alcohol in checked bags... in the original containers, wrapped in some clothing... no problems :D Somehow still end up with sticker shock from my S&S bill and way too much of my smuggled liquor left over! LOL! It's just too long of a walk back to the cabin and way too easy just to order up on deck!! LOL!

I'd probably split it up among all of you if you take it in your carry-on and put the rest in your checked luggage. Maybe have everyone take one each in their carry-on and remainder in luggage. That's what I'd do.

You are so right!!! That's what happened to us everytime. We usually leave our cabin with one. After dinner, we go back to the cabin and get another. After that, we end up buying the rest. It's just easier, especially if you're at the Disco like I am all the time. I don't want to lose my seat near the dancefloor either.

On my recent Glory sailing I:

1) Put tequila in a rinsed out Listerine bottle in my checked luggage

2) Put an untouched traveler bottle of vodka in my checked luggage

Both arrived ... no problems. I did wait to buy my liquor until near the port so that I wouldn't have to leave it in my luggage during the plane ride. I also put the Listerine bottle inside of a ziploc back, which itself was inside of a Coleman waterproof camping bag. I'm glad I double bagged it like this, as my leftovers leaked on the way back, but the waterproof bag kept it away from my clothes.

I don't think it's being cheap. I enjoyed having a few on the balcony, one before dinner, etc. Basically when I wasn't out and about on the ship. All the other times I bought the ships drinks. I do refuse to buy those drinks out of the mini bar in the room though. IMO, has nothing to do with being cheap. I just refuse to be robbed on the price of a drink simply because it's put in my room. If they were a little more reasonably priced and not price gouging, I would most likely buy those too.

I like to have a drink or two in the cabin. Don't want to walk all the way to the bar for it. The drinks on board are not cheap. I wish Carnival had a way to buy alcohol and wine on board and charge the extra bottle charge to have in cabin, then people wouldn't want to smuggle it. Wine and champagne are allowed. I have taken wine and champagne on carry on no problem. Vodka and other spirits have to be "smuggled." Seems stupid to me. If they had a better program, or land based prices it wouldn't happen so much. I don't know about you but I pay about $2.00 - $2.50 for a bottle of beer (Bud light) in a bar or a casino at home. With the automatic tip this beer costs nearly $4.00. If this is normal bar prices where you come from, I guess you are making one hell of a good living. Not me. I am cheap. I will bring some wine, etc. I will also buy from bars. Just trying to keep the cost down. Just my humble 2 pennies worth.

Not cheap at all... I still average $150 per day on my bar bill... I do prefer to have a drink while getting ready for dinner, or in the morning (baileys and coffee or mimosa) without trekking all the way to the bar and then walking back... I have no guilt whatsoever about bringing liquor aboard... There are times when I want to have a drink... I'm going to have one!!!!! Carnival makes a killing off me, not worried...

I packed a cooler w/ a handle amd wheels. Then I just checked.. On the Miracle. It got delivered to my room full of beer and seagrams ice. They sell that onboard so we could carry it around with us. Gave our cabin steard 20 bucks and it was Never w/o ice the whole week.

Oh we will definately still be working on a steeeeep bar bill, not to worry. But with the big balcony of the Cat 12 suite, we'll also be spending tons-o-time out there as well, and there's nothing like relaxing with a nice glass of champagne.

Heidi - your idea sounds great, or I can carry it all, saying it's all of ours since we'll be boarding together. I really can't see any of them being the "wine police", can you?

We did bring the plastic bottles of vodka and rum on our last cruise with no problem. We put them in the water bottles we bought on the ship and mixed with lemonade, diet coke or whatever juice etc. they had on deck, or added a shot to the drinks we ordered, since sometimes they seem very light on liquor, we would also have a drink in our room at night, but then the rest of the night bought drinks. However, what some think is expensive depends on where you are from. I was in New York in Oct., we ordered 3 drinks and the bill was $29. Now that is expensive! They weren't even martinis. In Chicago, bottles of beer are $3.50 and up. Our bar bill always ends up around $350 or more anyway.

I don't understand why people are so cheap. If you can't afford to buy your drinks onboard, then maybe a vacation out of the trunk of your car and cooler are where you should go.

It's not being cheap, it's the thrill of getting away with something "illegal" for some.... ;)

Anyway, I've seen it go both ways. Some have gotten away with it, others have had it confiscated. I truly depends on the people involved, the particular cruise, you're on, etc. I've seen one person literally carry on a small cooler of alcohol, and I've seen someone else's luggage being opened and their bottles removed. It's basically a crap shoot.

So, do you feel lucky, punk? :)

I seriously doubt it because the people x-raying your luggage don't know if you're in the same cabin as the person behind you. You have to show your ID and boarding pass to security, and then you go to the security with the x-ray machines.

We brought aboard 2 water bottles filled with vodka, a small coconut rum plastic bottle and 2 containers (plastic) full of kahlua. Had white russians in room every afternoon after lunch or getting ready for dinner, we left bottled vodka in room when we left along with a few beers left over from some of our beer bucket deliveries!.....Still, our S&S was $1800 for 7 days for the 2 of us......$200 casino- $133 pictures- $250 shopping..so we still spent $600 or more EACH for the week. Next time I would bring sour mix and tequila with all the margaritas I drank and also would try 2 cases of beer for DH as the Bud light gets expensive for a seasoned beer drinker! We really never went down to the room to make drinks to bring on deck - next time may bring LARGE insulated mugs to make LARGE drinks to start with. It was a $5000 week for us and we had a riot, but next time we have to cut down the S&S at least a couple hundred!

Holy smokes! $1200 for a bar tab....I'm in shock at 4 bucks a pop that's like 21 drinks a day each. It'll be my first time on Carnival, but if there's alot of folks doing that I'd say Carnival deserves it rep as a party barge. Unfortunately (or fortunately for our tab) we're just too old to keep up with that pace of alcohol consumption....if my DH and I drink anymore in the AM we're snoozing by dinner time.
