BobK in NJ Posted December 29, 2014 #76 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Any recommendations for restaurants accessible from the Water Taxi? We will be staying at the Hilton for a few days and plan to use the water taxi for some sightseeing and to get to restaurants.
bluedog13 Posted January 15, 2015 #77 Share Posted January 15, 2015 If you are looking for cheap, ignore this post. Johnny V on Las Olas Boulevard is amazing. Chef is one of a kind and the food is legendary. Outdoor seating is available. Wine list is awesome and great selection of hand picked cheeses are a great treat. johnnyvlasolas.com

paleskin Posted April 27, 2015 #79 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Coming from New England, the only seafood we're craving while in Florida is fresh shrimp!! We always get firecracker shrimp and shrimp scampi at Bahama Breeze when staying in Tampa, but were going to Hilton Marina in Ft. Lauderdale this time. I know there's lots of restaurants, but we only want shrimp scampi or anywhere there is great shrimp dishes. Any good dishes within walking distance or water taxi from the Hilton????? Nativa Floridian Posted May 6, 2015 #80 Share Posted May 6, 2015 This is for people who have a little time to kill and are looking to get away from the crowded and busy 17th street restaurants and mediocre starbucks offerings. I discovered a place called 'SIP JAVA CO' which is about a 10 minute cab ride from Port Everglades. Its off US1 Highway in a Winn Dixie shopping plaza.... about a quarter mile north of Broward Blvd and US1. Their coffee is delicious! I had a signature drink called the 'Electric Shock'. It had cinnamon, caramel and vanilla! It was crafted very well and kudos to the kind barista who made it. My girlfriend had a cold brew which they said they make overnight every night.... she said it was very tasty! They sell fresh pastries, gluten free items, and have some snacks that looked pretty satisfying. I ordered the 'avocado toast' which had a generous amount of avocado on this killer raisin walnut bread...... it was thee best snack ever! The place had some good indoor seating and tons of outdoor seating too. It was also quiet and a good place to catch up on any work or study.... saw a couple students and professionals on their PC's. The place was clean too..... Again if you have time and want to sit and enjoy a good coffee please check this place out!
Nativa Floridian Posted May 6, 2015 #81 Share Posted May 6, 2015 Recently I asked for recommendations for restaurants in Ft. Lauderdale for a pre-cruise dinner. HistoryGirl4Ever Posted June 30, 2015 #82 Share Posted June 30, 2015 A coworker and her boyfriend are going to be in Fort Lauderdale post-cruise this October, and I've been helping her do research. Any suggestions on a peel and eat shrimp place, reasonably priced? And if you know if any FLL restaurants that also cater to celiac-free or gluten-free, that would be great to know too. Thanks! skoeper Posted October 26, 2015 #85 Share Posted October 26, 2015 We are disembarking in Port Everglades from our Constellation cruise and have 7 hours before our plane takes off. We have family in Ft. Lauderdale that we'd like to have lunch with before heading to the airport. Since there are 8 of us and we will all have luggage, we got the idea of maybe staying right there at the port to join the family for lunch. Are there even any restaurants AT the port? Any suggestions??? Thank you!
My Lady Sydney Posted October 26, 2015 #86 Share Posted October 26, 2015 Depending on your cruise line and airline you can do a luggage service thru the cruise line. Each line uses a different term for the service but it is awesome. You pay a small fee and when you set your luggage out the night before, you never see it again until you claim it at your home airport. We have done this several times now and it frees up your day--all you have is your carry-on luggage. Check with you cruise line to see which airlines they participate with. We definitely plan to do that, if we can! Our travel agent said that we would find out once onboard if we could get that service and how much it would be. Since we are trying to plan BEFORE the cruise, and we might not have email/cell service to communicate with the Florida relatives, I was going to try to get the lunch place all set up now :) Do you remember how much you paid for that service? We've seen it on past cruises, but have never tried it.
My Lady Sydney Posted October 26, 2015 #88 Share Posted October 26, 2015 I notice that you are sailing celebrity--my agent has always been able to tell me which airlines are offered--and if your agent won't then I would call celebrity directly and ask the ?--just be advised that some of the agents at celebrity don't know all the answers. You may have to call back and get a different agent. We paid $20pp but it was so worth it!!! We have flown united and southwest so I know those two airlines participate. There is a place on the website that gives the list but I can't seem to find it. As long as you know your airline participates you can make all your plans before the cruise. Funny - I just got off the phone with Celebrity and had the most confusing convo with two different reps. They act as if they have never heard of this service and told me for $35.00 I could stay on the ship until 4 p.m. in April or May. Wha???? LOL. I explained at least 4 times what I'm asking. Now, we are flying Southwest. Did you sail on Celebrity when you used the service with Southwest?? $20.00 pp is REALLY worth it, yes! Now to figure out how to arrange that before we get on the ship so we really know for sure. Thanks for your info, you are truly helpful!
My Lady Sydney Posted October 27, 2015 #90 Share Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Unfortunately you can't arrange the service before you get on the ship--don't know why but that has only been the case. From what I read, if there aren't enough people to participate they cancel it. We are using Southwest in Jan but I honestly don't remember if we used them with Celebrity before. My agent states that Southwest participates with Celebrity. Edited October 27, 2015 by My Lady Sydney

NAGooner Posted October 27, 2015 #94 Share Posted October 27, 2015 Is that close to the port? skoeper, The boatyard restaurant is at 1555 SE 17th. St, located in the plaza next to the Renaissance hotel, which is not too far from the entrance to the port. It ws previously called The Bimini Boartyard and closed a while back (in July), but has now reopened (mid October) under new Ownership. "Inside Fort Lauderdale" doesn't give new place a good review and the comments are just as bad; their previous reviews weren't very inspiring either. NAGooner Posted October 28, 2015 #96 Share Posted October 28, 2015 Oh boy....Guess we won't plan on eating there. Thanks! skoeper, There are other places on or close to SE 17St where you can go for lunch, There is Bravo Ristorante, Kelly's Landing, Duffy's Sports Grille, Outback Steakhouse, Quarterdeck Seafood Bar, Bistro Mezzaluna. All of these places are relatively close to the port entrance (via cab) and at different price points. You could also go further afield to Las Olas Blvd., or to Las Olas Rivefront, or to the beach area (by cab or car) and have lunch at Coconuts, Casablanca, H2O Cafe or The Cheesecake Factory. Another fun place to eat is at the Rustic Inn, if you like crabs legs and wearing a bib. This restaurant is, however, a little further out. As you have family in Fort Lauderdale they may also have suggstions for lunch places. There are some good restaurant suggestiions in other posts in this thread and you can always check them out further on Trip Advisor for reviews, websites, menus and directions to the restaurant locations. NAGooner I was never a big fan of Bimini Boatyard, as I felt that it was overpriced for simply average food. Today, I had a post-business meeting luncheon with my colleagues at the new Boatyard. The decor is a great improvement, the menu is more refined, prices are reasonable (most entrees on the menu were under $20) and while I enjoyed my meal, the service was very lacking. They definitely need to work out some kinks, but overall, we had a nice experience, and it was a beautiful day to sit outside. (Mind you, the boat show was going on, and the restaurant was busy, so that may have contributed to the confusion in the bar and kitchen).

If you notice, the guy has never given any restaurant in Fort Lauderdale above three stars out of five. His reviews are anything but unbiased. The Boatyard isn't under new ownership. The Restaurant people bought it back in 2014.
PCHENG Posted November 23, 2015 #99 Share Posted November 23, 2015 (edited) Not sure if I should start a new thread or just inquire within, but here goes my question. I love stone crabs and is looking for a nice, casual seafood place near the Curio Diplomat Resort. GG's Waterfront bar & Grill appears to be the closest seafood restaurant to the Diplomat, and Tripadvisor reviews are generally good. Can anyone comment on the restaurant? Or is there anything close by that is better or comparable. We have a rental car so don't mind a little driving for good food. Thanks in advance.
