scumbers Posted September 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Hi sorry if this is a silly question what is the cafe caribe and horizon court on ruby - are they the same thing? cheers
Aquarian Posted September 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2011 The Horizon Court is a relaxed buffet, cafeteria style. The Cafe Caribe in the evening is also a buffet but when we ate dinner there on our last cruise, a waiter helped us to our table and it was more like a restaurant with linen napkins, etc. During the day, when the Horizon Court is jammed with people, you can take your tray to Cafe Caribe to find a seat. Cafe Caribe is a nice alternative to eating in the main dining room for dinner if you want to be more casual but it's a little nicer than the Horizon Court. Cafe Caribe and Horizon Ct are both usually open for lunch and lots of different items.
lovevacadays Posted September 16, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2011 Pretty close to the same thing in my opinion. I'm not a huge fan like others. The Cafe Caribe is directly behind the Horizon Buffet. It is set up nicer in the evenings with table clothes and has a themed buffet as opposed to the anything goes Horizon Court Buffet. DrivesLikeMario Posted September 16, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2011 When we were on the Ruby, the HC was closed every night until around 9pm when it opened back up again. All dinners were in the Cafe Caribe. It's a buffet, just set up differently. Service is usually excellent too.

Horizon is closed at night when Caribe is open and I think you need to check further beween HC and Caribe at lunch. Hard to do when it's crowded, but sometimes one has something you'd prefer over the other.

It definitely had a theme but I didn't think the quality of food was that much better. I did check out the Caribe at lunch. They did have a few other options. I can understand that some really prefer it over the Horizon. I guess when we went it wasn't that much different so I haven't yet to see what all the fuss is about. I certainly will give it a try on my next Crown cruise. Since we only tried it a couple of times I'm sure we didn't give it a fair shake. I liked it but just didn't see much difference. Of course, looking forward to trying it again as well as the other food venues! I do tend to break my healthy eating habits quite regularly when I'm on a cruise! I never said food was better in one venue over the other. In fact, since I pick and pick (hardly called choosing), either one is OK for me. I hardly ever see the inside of a diningroom on any ship, except the little ones where the buffet options are less.

klenklen Posted December 6, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 6, 2013 We took almost all our dinners in the CC. When it opens around 530 I make a run through and bring back a plateful of appetizers for my wife and I to share on the balcony. Then much later we're there for dinner. They have a nice selection of entrees, carved meats, roasted chicken, and nice themes. Much more relaxed than the MDR. Our favorite for dinner as we've stopped going to the MDR. caribill Posted December 7, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Also, both are open at breakfast. Cafe Caribe will have a sub-set of what the Horizon Court offers at that time.

cubfan63 Posted December 7, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Is the MDR open for B, L, & D when the CC & Horizon Court is open? MDR is open every for Breakfast and Dinner. It is open for Lunch on sea days and maybe port days with a later arrival. Breakfast and Lunch is served in one of the MDRs. The location and time is listed in the Patter. I often bring a plate back to eat on the balcony. I have an opaque plastic collapsible plate cover that is very handy. Once a crew member stared at it and I smiled and said "killer app". He laughed.
